A female motorcyclist was left in critical condition following a high-speed collision with the rear of a van at a traffic light in Pattaya during the early hours of the morning of 21 July.

The Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Centre in Pattaya received an emergency call at approximately 15:30 reporting a serious crash involving a motorcycle and a van on Sukhumvit Road, near the entrance of Soi Siam Country Club in Pattaya.

Rescue volunteers, along with paramedics from Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, rushed to the scene to provide urgent medical assistance.

Upon arrival, responders found a white Honda Zoomer-X motorcycle with Bangkok registration plate lodged into the rear of a white Toyota Commuter van bearing the licence plate from Samut Songkhram. The rear window of the van was shattered from the force of the impact and the motorcycle was severely damaged.

Close to the wreckage, emergency teams discovered the rider, described as a tom-boyish woman, lying in a pool of blood. She had sustained a fractured skull and both legs were visibly broken. First responders administered emergency treatment on site before rushing her to hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the van told police that he had been stationary at a red traffic light when he heard a loud crash from behind. Upon exiting his vehicle, he found that the motorcycle had collided with the van’s rear and the rider was severely injured. He immediately contacted rescue services for help.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash.
