Featured Replies

Just a few short years ago, there were articles saying Thailand will reduce import tax on wine, which ultimately was supposed to lower prices. Never happened. I have been waiting with baited breath to

Import duties are 0% but they are subject to excise charges and local taxes.

Just up the road from us but I've never persuaded b/f to investigate. I shall now renew my efforts. 😅

If Bum Fluff will not go with you to investigate, did you ever consider going alone?

Price Comparison: Pre- vs. Post-Tax Changes

(Examples for popular wines in Thai supermarkets like Villa Market, Tops, Wine Connection)

Wine (750ml) Pre-Tax Price (THB) Post-Tax Price (THB) Change
Jacob’s Creek Shiraz 1,200 950–1,000 –20%
Yellow Tail Cabernet 850 700–750 –15%
Casillero del Diablo 1,500 1,200–1,300 –15%
Moët & Chandon Brut 4,500 3,800–4,000 –12%
Thai-produced wine 600–800 500–700 –10%

Where do I buy bottles of Moet for 3800 ?

Wow, you are certainly paying extremely high prices for everyday wine, unless this is so far out of date that it's meaningless; for example the Casillero del Diablo can now be bought for around 545 baht and as far as I recall the Jacob's Creek Shiraz is under 600 baht a bottle.

For the record I buy mine from wholesalers and can select a few to try, quite a few of which I've now included in my regular purchases, but buying from supermarkets is something I rarely do because I get such good prices from my wine importers.
