My current discontent is with the Truevision bandits.

I have been a customer for nearly 2 decades. This evening no service from my 2 set top boxes.

Phoned the call centre, no English or other language options available as there was previously.

After several minutes first call disconnected, 2nd call was told I would get a call back, 2 hours later nothing.

The company has gone to the dogs.

Time to change...

Some people just cannot co-exist peacefully with others. They just want to spread their misery. I prefer to spread happiness and for others to have the same idea as me. It's my default. Thailand is great as there are very many people like this too. The miserable people cannot appreciate that.

Plent of nutters in Thailand.  You’ll have no problem your peers.

@Yagoda That of course is not true. Trump lies. If you deny that, then...

Everybody, including Trump lies. Even Jesus did, when he said love your enemy and turn the other cheek.

Democrats or leftists never ever lie?  You really believe that.

He also said he is coming back.

I’m not calling him a liar but over 2000 years later is a heck of a long wait.

@cjinchiangrai "illegal visas"....what fresh nonsense is this? No such thing. It's either valid or it is not.

No...people behaving badly is what brings scrutiny.

When you say you have 800k and you don't it is visa fraud. End of story.

Nothing illegal. just as legit as if you did it without an agent.

Except someone signed a government document claiming compliance. That is fraud.

There are a certain group of people I have found interesting who avoid that negativity. It's digital nomad communities.

I'm not sure exactly why, but I have some theories. I think it's because they are focused on doing their own thing. That gives them a kind of cocoon of familiarity that keeps them oriented and stable. Being in Thailand is secondary in many ways.

Some of the happiest people I have met in Thailand do remote work, hang out in nomad cafes and don't concern themselves with Thailand issues or people much. They never get caught up in Thai issues or the problems of Thai people because their attention is not focused in that direction. That translates into not complaining about the location or country much.

So my recommendation is find something else to work on to occupy your time and attention that will better your life. Don't sit around waiting for Thailand to be your answer.

By definition, digital nomads aren't part of the Thai life and routine. They're nomads.

Most of the time they do not have a Thai partner. Usually meeting only other foreigners.

They're living in their own world. They're not mixed with thai life.

My comment was that the perceived social ineptitude is just an act so we don't need to talk with idiots.

This is quite an advanced skillset, takes years to get really good at it.

@Yagoda It seems you do not understand the meaning of that proverb.

I'll explain it for you. It means if you hate you neighbour, you are creating hate within yourself. In other words, you are hating yourself.

In your mind, you are hating the Dems and Leftists or whatever you imagine. But in reality it's all a manifestation of your mind. You are creating a world of hate for yourself.

I do the opposite of that. I chose to love. Of course that is the opposite of hate. So you see me as an opposite.  I'm a Dem and a Leftist. What is that? It's just something you have created. It's not me. I've nothing to do with politics at all. That doesn't even enter my mind. I just see a person who seems full of hate and is constantly ranting.

You convince yourself that you are arguing with an enemy. I am just bemused and wonder if you are actually a real person.

Don't waste your life on hate. It can easily become a habit that seems normal. It isn't. Believe me. There's a world of love. That's the true difference between heaven and hell. Fake and real.

As first I thought you were just joking. But it's been going on for so long, that there is the concern that it's become a habit that you cannot break.

If I opine about someone in the public eye, like Trump. It's not at all political. I may be commenting on morality. But through your prism, it's a political argument and you will defend the immoral. You create your world. It doesn't mean that it's actually the way that you imagine it. It's just that way for you.

Love your neighbour and you will experience real love. That goes for all of the 'hateful' people on here.

There was a time when True had a monopoly, but that was back in the cable and satellite dish era. Amazing they're still doing business at the prices they charge considering the alternatives these days.

@cjinchiangrai Get over yourself. Be rigid or stay fluid. Up to you.

Let's introduce a dangerous criminal who has 800,000,000 baht and a kind and gentle person with whom you would trust with your family, who doesn't have 800,000 baht to spare. Who would you prefer as a neighbour?

I don't waste my time thinking about such silly things as to whether someone used an agent to obtain a visa or not.

What kind of life is that? This is Thailand. Life is more natural. That's why you are here.

But thank you for your apt demonstration of expat discontent.

Naw. Hating is no good tactically. Takes away focus from the mission.

Peace and Love. Love is an emotion, Peace is a smile and a loaded M4.

A counterfeit visa is considered an illegal visa.

There was compliance. That's where the agent's fee comes into play. You can scream fraud till the cows come home, but it's all legit.

Not only is it legit, it keeps people employed. It puts people on a payroll, and the more people are employed, the better it is for the country.

Except foreigners think they know how to run the country better than the powers that be.

For me using an agent is fast becoming a possibility.

First they stopped my ATM privilege and online transactions. Then.....

They stopped marking deposits as FTT from pension and Social Security which means if I want to continue getting extensions using the 65,000 baht/ mo method I have to go to Bangkok Bank every month for a credit advice paper.

I stopped direct deposit into Bangkok Bank and instead deposit into a US bank. So now I will spend $25.00/month on transfers if I want to maintain my extension using monthly deposits.

Or........or     I can pay an agent 15,000 baht a year to handle the extension for me. I'm on the edge on this one.

Maybe time for you to reflect on what is happening in Wales

They seem to enjoy the Thai activities they do participate in more then many expats, however.

They don't have the expectation of Thailand living up to a certain standard. If it fails to live up to that standard they don't get disgruntled. They just brush it off and move on. That may be because they know they can move easily if they want and are not stuck here so it does not matter much.

In a similar way to young backpackers. Just having a good time and not caring if things come up short here. Or, laughing about it if it does.

Contrast that with a long term expat who needs to either change Thailand or accept that it's poor quality in many ways. Especially, if they grew up in a more developed country.

So using a Thai agency is therefore the solution to all your problems? 🤣 More likely it's just a new problem.

I would switch to the Dtv visa. No money import required.

Using an agent has been ongoing here for many decades. I'll stick with tried and proven vs. DTV

Yes, he does. Agents are corruption. They are faking the funds needed by bouncing money in and out. They might not get caught, but it's still cheating.

I think some really aren't quite getting the topic of conversation 😊 Unwittingly providing us all with some entertainment.

We call them "curtain twitchers".

AI Overview

A "curtain twitcher" is a British slang term for someone who enjoys watching their neighbours, often from behind a curtain, to see what they are doing. It implies a degree of nosiness and is often used in a slightly disapproving or humorous way.

Here's a more detailed explanation:

Meaning:

The term refers to the act of subtly observing others, typically from a window, while trying not to be seen.

Origin:

The phrase is believed to have originated in the 1940s, coinciding with the popularity of net curtains in British homes according to the Oxford English Dictionary.

Connotation:

While not always negative, "curtain twitcher" often carries a sense of disapproval or mild mockery, suggesting someone who is overly interested in the lives of others.
