Wadephul called on the Israeli government to quickly resume close cooperation with the United Nations and its organizations on the ground to improve the distribution of humanitarian aid in the embattled Gaza Strip.

 

UN staff had "clearly shown that they are able to provide sufficient supplies to all people in Gaza if they are allowed to do so and if they can work in safety," he said.

The UK has announced another £8.5 million for UN aid to Gaza after Israel unveiled plans to expand its military operations in the territory.

 

Development minister Baroness Jenny Chapman said the money would “help address urgent need” in Gaza, but only if Israel allowed the region to be “flooded with aid”.

 

She said: “It is unacceptable that so much aid is waiting at the border – the UK is ready to provide more through our partners, and we demand that the government of Israel allows more aid in safely and securely.

“The insufficient amount of supplies getting through is causing appalling and chaotic scenes as desperate civilians try to access tiny amounts of aid.”

Yemen, China, Burma, and Rwanda are distant nations, whose rules are far removed from ours.

Well, Germany is the 2nd largest weapons supplier of Israel and therefore is partially guilty for the bombing of Yemen a few days ago, where Israel practically eradicated the whole government.

A campaign to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for mobile maternity units to be brought to Gaza is seeing final preparations for its second unit to travel to the area.

 

Belfast-based charity Palestine Aid Ireland is behind the mammoth fundraising effort, which has seen £140,000 raised towards the units. One mobile maternity unit has already been delivered to Cairo, Egypt and is awaiting a ceasefire in order to be allowed access to the strip. After almost doubling the £75,000 cost of one unit to help mothers and children, Co Tyrone man John Hurson says plans are now in place to deliver a second facility.

 

The units will provide mobile maternity clinics for emergency and neo-natal care to those who are pregnant and have suffered injuries.

“Lo and behold we were able to raise the money for the first clinic and it got built and is now in Cairo, it’s amazing,” Mr Hurson said.

“It’s a brand new bus that goes in to a specialist manufacturer in Cairo, they strip it and build the whole clinic in around six weeks.

A government is not supposed to hold the assets seized from criminal organizations and is expected to liquidate those assets without undue delay. If governments held on to seized criminal assets, it creates conflicts of interest.  I expect that you would be one of the first to complain about the government holding on to assets and not using those assets for the victims of crime.
