Thailand Tables Bold 8-Point Peace Plan in High-Stakes Cambodia Talks

Thailand has proposed an eight-point peace plan to solidify a fragile ceasefire with Cambodia during ongoing border talks in Kuala Lumpur. Acting Defence Minister Gen. Nattaphon Narkphanit led the Thai delegation, presenting the proposals during day two of the General Border Committee (GBC) preliminary meeting. Cambodia accepted some points “in principle,” with more discussions underway ahead of tomorrow’s high-level session. While Cambodia has offered few counter-proposals, Gen. Nattaphon called this “normal,” emphasizing Thailand’s readiness to defend its position. Recent Cambodian military movements near the border will also be addressed. Any final agreement must pass Thailand’s National Security Council. With international observers present, both nations face pressure to avoid ceasefire violations amid global scrutiny.
