Crime Man Shot in Dispute Over Drug Payment Outside Apartment

A 42-year-old man was injured after being shot in a confrontation over a drug payment dispute outside an apartment building in Bang Phli Nakhon community, Bang Phli Yai subdistrict, Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan province.

 

Police received a report at approximately 23:00 on 7 August, that a man had been shot in the area. Upon arrival at the scene near the entrance to Soi 12 within the community, officers found Mr. Praphan Thongtoom, 42, lying in the middle of the road with gunshot wounds to both upper thighs. One bullet passed through the left leg, while another remained lodged in the right leg. He was given first aid before being rushed to Chularat 3 International Hospital.

 

Bloodstains and trails were found extending from the shooting site to Soi 14, spanning about 50 metres, with additional evidence near Soi 17 in front of an apartment block. Police recovered two 9mm cartridge casings, one live 9mm round and a wristwatch at the scene. The area was cordoned off for forensic investigation.

 

The suspect, known by the nickname “X,” reportedly resides in room 210 on the second floor of the apartment complex. Police found the room locked and after gaining entry with the building caretaker, discovered drug paraphernalia, numerous small plastic bags for dividing drugs, over 100 methamphetamine tablets and approximately 20 grams of crystal methamphetamine hidden inside a blue bag beside the bed. The suspect had fled following the incident.

 

A video captured by a local resident shows the victim, wearing a white shirt and the suspect, shirtless and carrying a black backpack, engaged in a street fight outside the apartment. The suspect landed a solid punch before appearing to reach for something, prompting the victim to step back and challenge him not to use a weapon. Shortly after, the suspect drew a handgun and fired two shots, hitting the victim in the legs.

 

 

Mr. Praphan later told police he was scheduled to meet the suspect that evening regarding payment for drugs but was late, which angered the suspect. After a brief fight, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots. The suspect remains at large.

 

Neighbours reported hearing loud arguments and a dispute over drug money before the altercation turned violent.

 

Police are reviewing CCTV footage and continuing their investigation to apprehend the suspect. The motive is believed to be a dispute over drug payment, with authorities awaiting further statements from the victim.
