As so often, you ignore the simple truth that Russia/Putin launched an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine.

 

If it was an attempt to seize control of the 4 "oblasts" that they now wish to incorporate into Russia, why then did they launch a (hideously botched) unsuccessful attempt to seize Kiev?

Back in 2023, The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Putin in relation to war crimes against the people of Ukraine.

 

I guess there has been a volley of communication through diplomatic channels to safeguard Vlad's protection from arrest once he touches down on American soil.

The most likely outcome of the August 15 Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska is exploratory talks focused on Ukraine peace parameters, with Trump assessing Putin's willingness for a deal but no immediate resolution or breakthrough. Diplomatic optics will benefit Russia with their foot in the door of the USA, possible vague commitments to further negotiations, but skepticism from Ukraine and observers that Putin will use it to stall or consolidate gains without concessions. Nothing is expected to change fundamentally on the ground right away, as the meeting excludes Zelensky and lacks preconditions for enforceable agreements, potentially leaving the war ongoing.

Meanwhile Trump undermine U.S. credibility, alliances, and informed policy-making by changing the narrative in a detached way blaming Zelensky "for killing everybody" when discussing  an over simplified view of a major geopolitical conflict like Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine.

Right. Maybe Trump can give away land belonging to the Baltic nations and other States which border Russia while he's at it in order to appease the Great Nationalist.

Compensation is one thing and might be open to discussion, the transfer of ownership and/or control of land is a completely different matter.

I don't think that's for Zelensky to decide anymore. Russia is in control of the Donbass. Unless Putin makes a generous offer, but I think that's unlikely after the way Zelesnky agitated.
