A 52-year-old monk was found dead in his quarters at Wat Pradittharam in Bang Rup, Thung Yai District, Nakhon Si Thammarat, on the morning of 13 August, with investigators suspecting he was electrocuted by a mobile phone charger.

At around 07:00,  the Siam Ruam Jai Foundation in Thung Yai received a report of the incident and attended the scene. The monk, identified as Phra Chanin Wongsupanichkul, was discovered lying face-down inside his hut, his body already stiff, suggesting he had been dead for several hours.

Beneath the body, rescuers found an extension cord and a mobile phone charging cable still connected to a device. It is believed the monk may have been lying on the cord when an electrical probem occurred, resulting in a fatal shock.

According to temple residents, the monk, originally from Satun Province, had been ordained at the temple for three years and was known for his quiet and respectful manner. The abbot raised the alarm after noticing he had not emerged from his quarters for morning activities.

Police from Thung Yai Station and doctors are preparing to conduct a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Should teach him not to use mobile phones as a monk.
