Mexico fixing to lower residency financial requirements

Featured Replies

Mexico remains the most popular expatriation choice for Americans and Canadians.

However, the financial requirements for both temporary and permanent residence have shot up dramatically over recent years, blocking many from their Mexican dream.

It appears that at least modest relief from that is on the way.

So for American and Canadian expats in Thailand who consider Mexico a possible Plan B, this is definitely good news.

Of course there are pros and cons to any country, but a big pro for expatriating to Mexico over Thailand is either instant or within 5 years permanent residence security. Instant with permanent residency and 5 years later starting with temporary.

No thanks ... :cheesy:

Us poor Yanks come to Thailand, for <$2100 a month or <$25k lump sum savings

I can make Tacos at home :coffee1:

Yanks can enter visa exempt (tourist card) for 180 day 👍

If stay near Guatemala border, can stay there for 90 days, then extend another 90 days.  With Belize right next door ... hmm ... Plan B :cheesy:

Been all over Mexico, many great beautiful places to live, most of the locals are wonderful people, minus the pervasive subversive undercurrent and filthy water that exists virtually everywhere there.

I'm Hispanic so I speak Spanish.

I would move to Mexico in a heartbeat but my wife doesn't speak Spanish and at her age it would be hard.

My family comes from Guadalajara a city I love

Not sure how much cheaper it would be living there vs the US

My cousins live a very similar life to us in the US and as far as I can tell it costs about the same

Mexico is simply too expensive to live, plus the security issues. Great culture and people. And since I speak decent Spanish, that's a plus. But, I don't want to always have to consider safety and the cost of living is way too high.
