Accident Quick-Thinking Off-Duty Firemen Save Child from Choking

In a heart-stopping moment in Barangay San Benito, two off-duty firemen heroically saved a three-year-old girl who was choking on a small toy. The incident unfolded on Thursday, 14th August, as the quick-thinking duo sprang into action on their way home.

 

Senior Fire Officer 1 Jan Vincent Alba and Fire Officer 1 Lloyd Aaron Gimenez, from the Bureau of Fire Protection’s Region 4-A headquarters in Calamba City, were journeying home in an ambulance from the Lucena City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. Their attention was drawn to a commotion nearby as they passed through the area.

 

Realising the severity of the situation, the two firemen stopped to investigate and discovered a young child struggling to breathe. The choking hazard? A small toy lodged in her throat.

 

With their extensive training as first responders, Alba and Gimenez immediately administered emergency first aid, demonstrating the skills that firemen are known for. By swiftly and carefully working to dislodge the toy, they managed to stabilise the child’s condition. The girl was then transported to a nearby hospital for additional treatment, ensuring her safety and recovery.
