Police from the Economic Crime Division (ECD) have arrested a company director accused of issuing fake tax invoices, resulting in losses exceeding 1 billion baht.

On 14 August, Pol. Maj. Gen. Thatchapoom Charuprat, Commander of the ECD, ordered Pol. Col. Naruphon Karuna, Head of Division 2, and Pol. Lt. Col. Wannalop Rattanawong to arrest Mr. Wirot, 58, following an arrest warrant issued by the Samut Prakan Provincial Court (No. 704/2568) on 13 August. He faces charges of “intentionally issuing tax invoices without legal authority.” Mr. Wirot was apprehended outside his home in Moo 6, Thung Bua Subdistrict, Kamphaeng Saen District, Nakhon Pathom Province.

The case dates back to 2017, when the Central Tax Audit Division discovered that Chok Kritima Sub Co., Ltd., a company trading in scrap materials, had issued 2,415 fake tax invoices to other businesses. The total value of goods amounted to 1,848,045,719  baht. Tax authorities subsequently assessed value-added tax, penalties and additional charges, totaling 1,062,141,501 baht.

Investigations revealed that the company’s registered address was an empty warehouse, later leased to another company. The tenant reported that no business had operated there previously. Authorities gathered sufficient evidence to obtain an arrest warrant, leading to Mr. Wirot’s capture.

During questioning, the suspect denied all charges. He has been handed over to the Division 2 investigators of the ECD for legal proceedings.
