Alcohol-Free Movement Picks Up Among Thai Teens

Alcohol consumption among Thai youth (ages 15–24) dropped from 34.7% in 2021 to 24.8% in 2024, reflecting a global shift toward sobriety. A survey revealed that 72.3% of teens now favor alcohol-free activities, especially during Buddhist Lent, as parents supervise longer and societal values evolve. Campaigns like “Active Youth: The Coolest Choice is to Stop Drinking,” hosted by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation, are being rolled out to reinforce this trend and reduce risks like drunk driving. Experts caution that proposals to relax alcohol laws could reverse progress if not managed carefully, urging continued community support for healthier lifestyles.
