Thai Army Keeps Border Posts with Cambodia Shut Amid Tensions

Thai troops continue to hold 11 strategic border checkpoints with Cambodia—including Phu Makua, Ta Muen Thom temple, and Preah Vihear—seized during clashes between July 24–28, according to Lt. Gen. Boonsin Padklang of the Second Army Region. Thailand has lodged a protest with the UN, accusing Cambodia of violating the Ottawa Convention through the deployment of anti‑personnel landmines along the border. Preliminary talks on landmine removal are scheduled in Malaysia ahead of a formal Regional Border Committee meeting. As Boonsin approaches retirement in late September, he expressed confidence in his successor to maintain strong border defence.
