Dutch-Thai Couple Shares Harrowing Escape From Border Clashes With Ambassadors

A Dutch man and his Thai wife, who reside in Thailand’s border province of Si Saket, recounted their escape from violent clashes—blamed on Cambodia—during a meeting with the Dutch ambassador. Thailand’s Foreign Affairs Minister and army spokesperson also led ambassadors from 33 countries to inspect alleged minefields in Si Saket, aiming to present evidence that Cambodia violated the Anti‑Personnel Mine Ban (Ottawa) Convention. During the tour, the couple shared their firsthand experiences and emphasised that Thailand only acted defensively during the border violence. Their narrative was intended to support Thailand’s international stance and clarify responsibility for the conflict.
