During the Great Depression, poor Australians depended on rabbits as their only source of protein. They became fat-deficient, because rabbit meat is one of the leanest meats.

Fat is essential in hormone production, and the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A,D,E and K.

Old news we need fat, i never said no fat, low fat is best, too much fat makes you fat and causes insulin resistance, of course keto is a whole different reaction going on

If fat is too low, testosterone goes down.

Too much or too little fat are problems, but hard to know the exact amount needed.

Just eat some cheese, cook your eggs in butter, whatever feels like a "normal" amount.

With advice like that you probably have a weight problem

He's actually right, as more calories burned, less put in has you maintaining a proper weight or actually losing.  An Air fryer is a healthier substitute than using more oil in regular frying.

Too much sugar, empty carbs, is how people get fat. Sugar is burned off first as energy, Restricting sugar has you burn more stored body fat. Too much fat is hard on the heart, increases cholesterol, chance of stroke and type 2 diabetes and too much protein is hard on the kidneys. The best lifestyle is low fat, moderate carbs and protein.

Yes but people who are using air fryers are probably terrified of fats and have cut out fats completely from their diets.

Oh, that sounds clever. Must be yummy! You have more ways of torturing your pallet?

Or just want to reduce fats and still have some of the taste of fried foods. My daughter followed my lifestyle, eventually, and uses one all the time, wanting better health for herself and her family. People need fat. Just not too much.

Nah, junk food is often high in carbs and fat, potato chips for example 30% fat

Yeah and the combination sugar and fat, binds the fat in the body.

Never used an air fryer before.

Just did a quick search on Lazada and they're cheap ... some are 450 Baht. Are they any good?

Anyone cook with these things?

What do you cook in them? Do they replace conventional ovens?

Is any cooking oil required?

What's the physics of these things? Like HOW do they work?

Recommended?

Highly recommend

We bought a cheapie and it's lasted 3 years. Next will buy Seagull if they have them. I have had good luck with that brand.

Yeah, crushing it with a forklift maybe

Too much sugar keeps the body from burning stored fat. That's how Keto works, starving the body from sugars and forcing the stored fat into energy. Junk food isn't something anyone should eat, but is the biggest reason so many get overweight, along with drinking calories.

Easy to understand. She didn´t want you to torture her with constant babble until she finally broke down and gave up.

No, she watched me and how I ate and lived, and saw I kept a very low percentage of body fat all her life, so followed suit, seeing the results, and knowing I was certified as a trainer and trained others for 16 years. My son also does the same thing, and he's muscular and lean. When you do most of the cooking in the family, and they eat it, they acquire good healthy eating habits, and even though most everyone eats crap occasionally, you always come back to what you learned growing up, especially if you see the results in others and then yourself.

Thanks for the lesson Freddy! I actually think that´s a logic most of us can understand without expert help from the self-appointed master.

And Air FRYING is not that either, it is roasting or baking.

I agree, and said as much in a previous post. It's a misnomer.

And other similar posts.

Are you aware that there was no intention in describing the cooking technique when they were named air fryers?  When it was first patented by Philips it was described as a small size cooking oven and the air fryer name was only given as the output was said to resemble the taste of fried foods.

Boiled or omelettes could be done in theory. I use an egg steamer for those.

As for vegetables and eggs, I have an induction cooker and pan for that.

I discovered recently that eggs can be put directly in the air fryer and haven't used my steamer or boiled one since.

How are you preventing the egg from sticking?

Are you cooking them as scrambled eggs, or an omelet?

Life's sweeter with sugar, obviously fatsos need to be careful

Equivalent to boiled eggs or those done in a steamer.

Put them in whole for 8 to 10 mins so can be done at the same time as sausage and bacon for breakfast.

To get more like a fried or poached egg equivalent you can put them in a silicon or parchment cup and into the airfryer.

I inherited a "toaster oven" (Toshiba, from around 1899, looks like the rocket parts Toshiba sold to the Soviets).

Except for making toast, gratin and pizza (things I avoid), can I do anything useful with such a thing?

(I do have an air fryer, but it's just soooo complicated to use)

I use an aluminium cup to poach eggs, i sit it in a covered pan containing a small amount of water on an induction heater.

I love scrambled eggs, but they are damn messy to clean up afterwards.

Do the whole ones in the air fryer ever crack on you?

Not so far, which they often do when conventional boiling.

What will it do that our round glass convection oven won't?

Convection ovens are typically larger so take longer to preheat and take up more counter space.  They don't crisp things up as well as an airfryer, but are more useful when you want bigger portions or are cooking for more people.

@treetops What you write is not the whole truth. Those convection/halogen ovens don't need preheating. Not crisping up is not an issue that I have ever faced when using one. They might take a little longer to cook things, but of course that is because they are bigger. I would not even consider buying a tiny 'air fryer'. I can bake cakes and bread in a 700 baht convection oven with no preheating necessary, in addition to all of the things you can do with an air fryer.

counter space and preheat time not a problem.

We do 'crispy' things in our deep fat frier (real, not electric) or frying pan, on the kitchen counter's built in gas stove. We have no health issues and are not overweight.

I'm sure they are good for some people, I'm genuinely checking if we should get one. I'm yet to see why we should.
