I'm in a similar situation but my form never arrived!

It's too early to panic.

There is always a second mailing if you don't get the first one back in time.

Hopefully by then Thai Post will be back in service for us.

If you don't receive the second mailing by a certain time then there is an alternative method to report.

Even if it gets as bad as cutoff there is now a by phone protocol to restore benefits.

I received mine on Friday.

I guess 'y'all' will be heading to the nearest FedEx or UPS then... DHL might send docs - you'd neeed to check. DHL is the main international courier here in Thailand. But the others are around. Maybe FedEx and UPS would be a better bet though as they are US companies. DHL is European I recall.

If courier post is not accepted for the form, are there any countries neighboring Thailand that are still sending letters to the US? Can't go to Cambodia, because of war zone. Myanmar, same. Maybe a run across to Laos or Malaysia for the people living there?

Define "serious economist".

You do realize that this experiment in globalism is less than 100 years old, don't you? And that is has failed miserably? Another word for "serious economist" is lobotomized clown.  Not that these aren't smart people. Only that they've been indoctrinated into a cult that makes them think in terms of averages, and that is absolutely the wrong metric to be using.

Remove the top 1/3rd, and ask what these actions taken by "serious economists" have done to the rest of humanity. Your "serious economists" ARE THE PROBLEM.  They are exactly what we are fighting against. So who is really doing the exploiting?  In my mind, it's those programming the "serious economists".

So nothing on the question you're replying to.

"Can tariffs (taxes) imposed on American importers really allow them to increase wages?"

I only have two complaints about the system I have to work with.

First, I'd like to synchronize these two pensions (one from the state, one from the corporations I worked for), and use the same Proof of Life for both. Despite email and chat conversations, and talking on the phone with a real life person, it wasn't possible. But ok.

Second, I used to get the Proof of Life documents by mail, and sometimes it just never arrived. This is Thailand after all.

So now I get everything through the internet.

Small complaints, I'm quite happy with how these 'bureaucracies' work.

How are you getting form 7162 through the internet?  There is a blank form, but the mailed version has your personal barcode. That's apparently what the machines want. This year, they added a QR code and Barcode... overkill.

An amazingly stupid response to Trump's stupidity

I don't think the post offices worldwide have another choice.

First the banking and now this.

Trump will make executive order that SS can only be spent in USA.

Am waiting for that shoe to drop and other capital controls such as this to kick in when things get really bad and people worldwide start pulling money out of the US.  Remember the movie Rollover?

In this day and age of internet, scan and fax, turbo fax, mobile banking, direct deposit, automatic bill payment directly from one’s bank and Venmo.

Who in the hell still uses snail mail?  Especially from Thailand to the USA.

Probably the same people who write checks.

well  just ordered several target and shell gas gift cards.  They are sent USPS.  So some things really do get mailed.  Even stupid Medicare every month insists on paper mailing my premium bill even thought I pay it online.  SSA now and then sends me paper mail even though I have paper free selected on my account for years.  My credit and debit cards are paper mailed to me now and then when they are nearing their expiration date.  They are all sent US Mail.

Knock on wood, now that I started social security and am using my USA address, I won't have to worry about this.  But it seems odd to me that the SSA will never want to check that I am alive, just because records show a US address?

I wouldn't say that will happen but I will say it could happen.

That would effectively trap hundreds of thousands of expats.  Not that Trump would CARE about that.

The block is to the USA. Not from.

Logistiically all they could do is stop paying to people with foreign addresses.

Well, you're likely going to have to send it FedEx, to the tune of maybe 2500 baht for a letter.

No doubt Trump's ignorance knows no boundaries, and the destruction is only starting to begin. Under the goofball America is becoming less relevant by the day, and that's probably a good thing.

If the demise of the de minimus exclusion really applies to all sendings to the US including letters, as Thailand Post seems to believe, I don't see how sending by FedEX or other courier would circumvent the tariff.

If FedEx's and the other courier services' approach to Thai customs is any guide, then FedEx sendings to the US will get tariffed to the max and the recipient will be given a bill.

I am hopeful that it was never Trump's intent to apply tariffs to ordinary letters and non-parcel mailings, but who knows? It could be a calculated plan to undermine the USPS.

Trump is way off the deep end with his trade war.  Nothing will be gained from this and Americans will be harmed. Here's a real world example. Last year I bought this pair of headphones for $80. I'm back in the US now and wanted to buy another pair and the price has jumped to $109.  The only winners here are the government sector and taxes they will collect.

The price changes all the time on these things.  I've bought several things on amazon and a few weeks or months later end up buying the same things again and either the price is up or down. These companies use programs called dynamic pricing, they will adjust price dependent on demand, inventory etc..

This is absolutely true....

However the funny part is that these same earphones are 70 bucks canadian which is about 50 USD on Walmart Canada

On another thread, those of us who get US Social Security here have to file form 7162 (Proof of Life) now.

If anyone maintains an address in the US, no matter where you are, your address is the US and you don't need the proof of life.

I've never seen my mailing address in the four years I've used it...IRS/SS/Bank/everything.

That is potentially one way to prevent his latest blood-sugar-related decision to stop mail-in ballots.

On another thread, those of us who get US Social Security here have to file form 7162 (Proof of Life) now. It's very late this year and a lot of people haven't gotten them yet. We now have 60 days from July 31st (when they were mailed from the US) to get them back to the SSA. This is a new hiccup we don't need.

However, I'm not certain whether documents are included in this.  Chat GPT sites references that say documents are exempt. It's "goods" that they're after.  We'll see.

You can't file the form online??

Wallmart Must Die 🤮

why????

it helps allot of people (mostly low income earners) with low costs goods, providing thousands of jobs. They are always thinking and improving, 95% of the time the stores are clean. You can get just about anything you need in one place along with getting your eyes checked, pick up medications and at some places get a health exam. All at a reasonable price.

So why get rid of it?

No, you can't!

Is that not ridiculous?

Furthermore, the form is easily forged and nobody checks them.

The OP mentions suspension of parcel service, but Thailand Post's announcement was that all mail services to the US are suspended.

Has Thailand Post changed its position with respect to letters, or is the article incorrect?
