A routine morning ride turned catastrophic in Pattaya yesterday when a motorcycle collided with a pickup truck, seriously injuring two young riders.

Around 9am on August 25, the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Team responded promptly to a collision scene on Chaiyaphruek Road, in the Pong-Khao Mai Kaew area. The crash involved a grey Forza 350 motorcycle, left severely mangled, and a white Toyota Revo pickup truck, which bore deep scrape marks on its rear.

The riders, 22-year-old Watcharaphon Yingyuen, suspected of having a fractured arm, and 19-year-old Ratsarin Phutwet, with a visibly deformed upper left leg, received crucial first aid before being transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

Watcharaphon recounted the harrowing moment of the accident, explaining, “I was heading from Pattaya to Chachoengsao for a merit-making ceremony. The pickup truck was in the left lane but suddenly moved to the centre and turned into a factory. I didn’t have time to brake, so I hit the back of the truck.”

The pickup truck driver, 32-year-old Anu Kanphong, stated he had been delivering goods to the factory and had slowed down to make his turn when the collision occurred.

Police quickly initiated an investigation at the crash site, capturing photos and gathering statements from those involved. They have confirmed that further enquiries will be conducted to establish liability and determine any legal actions that might follow.

The accident caused significant disruption on Chaiyaphruek Road as bystanders gathered, watching rescue teams manage the scene and treat the injured. Police urged drivers to exercise caution, especially when changing lanes or making sudden turns.

This incident adds to a troubling trend of motorcycle accidents in Pattaya, where road safety remains a significant concern for both locals and visitors. Authorities stated they would continue examining the evidence before deciding on any charges.

Motorcycle accidents in Pattaya have prompted calls for improved safety measures. As the police work to establish the details of this crash, residents and tourists alike are reminded to exercise greater awareness on the roads.

In the meantime, the community's thoughts are with the injured riders as they recover. The focus remains on ensuring such incidents become less frequent, urging all road users to adhere more closely to safety protocols.

Hitting a rather-solid factory never ends well for motorcycle riders.....
