Solar Battery /Inverter install at Carport or in the house?

Featured Replies

Just about to get a 15kw solar system installed

Carport is 20m from house and they asked if we want to have a small area made under the carport to keep the battery/inverters protected or inside the house

I was not wanting this inside the house but have been reading keeping these inside keeps the temperature down on the components and will help with the lifespan

Is it much better to keep inside as would prefer it all 20m away from the house if possible

Can you keep the sun off it?

And does your inverter have fans?

Ours is all in the car port, it's well shaded by plants and of course the car-port itself.

Whilst LiFePObatteries are very safe, consider that a 14kWh battery pack contains about the same energy as nearly 2 litres of petrol, we really don't want that all coming out at once in the event of a fault.

Treat your batteries like you would the fuel for your mower.

I will have to check about fans

We can keep the sun off it being under the carport and they said they can build some housing for them

This is what i was worried about
Like you say they should be safe but much prefer them out the way and would only have to worry about 2 cars if anything did go wrong

If fans in the inverter, it may have a filter you need to clean regularly.  You don't want somewhere dusty.

I don't like fans, fans ALWAYS fail, it's not if, it's when.

It's this model

Looks like it says intelligent cooling so not sure if it has fans

It probably has a fan it controls in so far as it turns on and off when needed or maybe adjusts the speed.

Looks like they are installing 1 x15kw inverter

Would it be better to have 2 or 3 smaller inverters if 1 fails we still get power or dosent it work like that?

If you can have 2 or 3 inverters without fans, I would go for that.

Now this is something new i have started reading about
Will i need fans if the 15kw Deye inverter is outside under a carport?

There is probably a fan inside the unit.  The ones without fans usually have a large heatsink on the back.  The problem with fans is you don't know the quality of the fan until it wears out.  Some of them are incredibly noisy too, which is less of a concern if under a car port.

If there is an option without fans and a respected make like Deye, then I would go for that.

Heat is one thing in Thailand for electronics. But not to forget the deadly humidity that can cause as much damage on the long term. I would leave it in any sort of a closed shed with the aircon running on the solar.

Dont forget the ants and gecko's love for ruining electronics.

Thanks for the info

Sounds like the installer is fitting 1x 15kw Deye inverter

Not sure if it has fans

They said they will make some sort of housing using Sherra boards with a metal frame.

Just checked and they give 10 year warranty on the Deye hybrid inverter

I wonder how easy it would be to claim if it fails.

Have two 10 KW Deye Hybrids, both with internal Fan.

Ours (2 X 10kWh LFP batteries) live happily in the AC, indoors at the house.
