SIM provider new passport

Featured Replies

Registered my new passport yesterday.

First stop Kasikorn, easy.

Second stop AIS, easy (just three minutes wait for the guy with the better English available ).

That was in Central Khon Kaen.

Then back to district town, Bangkok Bank home branch.

Monstrous procedure 🫣

  • Passport, original. Copy will not do the job. Please start getting comfortable carrying your passport, the real deal needs to be presented to complete more tasks these day.

  • Required by what section of what law?   I am genuinely interested in your answer to this question, because this claim is made regularly on this forum without corroborating evidence. Just two

To be really honest, the only time I've needed by passport was for Immigration.

Cannabis stores have been requiring it recently, and a veterinarian required it of me. So far the cannabis stores have always accepted a picture of my passport that I carry on my phone.

AIS SIM provider took a look at your visa status?

Sorry can't tell.

He scrolled through the first pages but could be just searching for the data page.

Just noticed him taking picture of  passport data and then me.

And:

the multitude of transferrd stamps is on two pages and really hard to understand/read.

Doubt he found details otherwise he would asked me (like sometimes happens at hotel reception).

They gave you a new SIM?

No

The whole procedure was documented by an SMS.

This number has completed identity verification with the ID Card ending xxxx. For terms & conditions of the service, including collection, use, and disclosure of personal data (PDPA), please refer to www.ais.th and select term&Legal

Can I bring a copy of my passport data to update my new passport with my True SIM provider. Sound paranoid, but must travel 100 km to reach the SIM provider and I am not too comfortable carry the passport with me. Thank you 🙏🙏

Just did that with True last month and had to bring the passport.

Two questions, sorry:

1) They ask for your visa status?

2) They gave you a new SIM?

I am a true SIM owner as well.

Thanks

Your link says nothing about passports. It only says the SIM must be registered to the same name as the bank account. My SIM is registered to my previous passport which expired eight years ago.

Can I ask you which bank your phone number is linked to?🙏🙏

did this a few weeks ago.

A question arising from your useful input:

does one therefore need to register a new passport with True before also registering itswith the relevant bank?

If I lose it, it won't be a drama at all.

The loss of the phone, old or new, is not the problem:

it is the access it potentially gives to the phone’s news”owner” to your

personal and essential data that will very likely cause you enormous problems!

Bangkok bank

What happens if your SIM is not physical, but only digital?

I have two real SIM cards and an e-SIM with 1-2-Call and the procedure is identical.  All are registered in the "My AIS" app anyway where you can top them up and see service and call balances for each, date of validity and the date each was acquired.

As long as you travel sober, you'll be fine.

I would take the passport in my man bag nailed to my chest 😊

At AIS they have an app which they use to take a picture of the passport. Some automatic process behind.

I doubt it will work with a copy.

So, is SIM card data verification only for those who use the bank's app to transfer money?

Full access or only bank app. no access.

mobile still could use online

the intent was security, assuring both the phone and bank book had the persons same exact name.

In my case the passports recorded were two different numbers and that update was the key.

Thanks for confirmation.

Had this found in Kasikorn website and had done update with new passport last week.

Had the same problem with an old passport number registered for SIM. They froze my access to account for the mobile app without any advance warning. I noticed only when I tried to pay some utility payments. Extremely annoying as I was abroad at the time... After return it still required like 20 minutes discussion in the bank for the bank staff to figure out why the access was frozen and advise how to reactivate. The provided message in the app was not clear at all.
