US prosecutors fail 3 times to indict in alleged D.C. assault

US prosecutors fail three times to secure indictment in FBI assault case
Federal prosecutors failed three times to persuade a grand jury to indict a woman accused of assaulting an FBI agent during an immigration operation in Washington, D.C., last month, a highly unusual failure as President Donald Trump’s administration seeks to aggressively charge street crime in the nation's capital.
Three different federal grand juries declined to indict Sydney Reid for assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers, prosecutors disclosed in a court filing late on Monday. Prosecutors then downgraded the offense to a misdemeanor.
They claimed that an FBI agent had scraped the back of her hand during the scuffle. Perhaps someone can confirm that it caused this agent great pain every time she tries to give someone the finger. Definitely an offense worthy of a felony conviction which could have resulted in an 8 year sentence.

Did she try to overthrow the government and suspend democracy, and hang the VP?

Cant say that I recall any event to "overthrow" the government and suspend democracy and hang the VP.

Good on you. No need to worry that anyone will check you phone for nasty messages about the local leaders, then.

Not like in the New Hermit Kingdom.

From the article:

"U.S. prosecutors in Washington sought to bring a felony assault charge against Reid, accusing her of pushing the FBI agent’s hand against a cement wall. The July 22 confrontation happened as Reid was filming officers who were transferring two men accused of gang activity into federal immigration custody outside a Washington jail, according to court documents. The alleged assault occurred while Reid was being pinned against the wall by federal agents."

Do you understand what it signifies that she wasn't even indicted, much less convicted?

  • Courts have consistently ruled that the “official proceeding” in question was Congress’s certification of the Electoral College vote.

  • To convict, prosecutors had to show that defendants acted “corruptly”—meaning with the intent to unlawfully stop or impede certification of Biden’s victory.

  • Hundreds of rioters have pleaded guilty or been convicted under this charge.

Attempting to undermine the Constitution of the United States sounds like overthrowing the government. At least, that's the case if you believe in a government of laws. I agree with you that it wasn't an attempt to suspend democracy. It was an attempt to eliminate it.

Here's a link to the Jan 6 rioters chanting Hang Mike Pence. Their chanting starts at 1:16. The video concludes with the gallows that these rioters constructed for Mike Pence outside the Capitol.

At one point you'll hear 'Bring out Mike Pence". You think that was in order to give him a big hug?

It's clear you haven't been keeping track of the Trump administration's assertion that they were going to be tracking the social media of all those who hold US visas.

Here's a link

https://www.justice.gov/usao/justice-101/charging

And here's a quote from it:

"After the prosecutor studies the information from investigators and the information they gather from talking with the individuals involved, the prosecutor decides whether to present the case to the grand jury. When a person is indicted, they are given formal notice that it is believed that they committed a crime. The indictment contains the basic information that informs the person of the charges against them."

In  other words,in the case of Sidney Reid, it wasn't even determined that a crime had even occurred.

You are remarkably ignorant of the US judicial system for someone who claims to be an American.

Tell me how, you must be Perry Mason. You can cite a Justice Department publication. Tell us about things like Grand Jury nullification.

If you can't even understand what an indictment or lack thereof signifies, what's the point of going into the weeds about a grand jury nullification?

The fact of the matter is you compared the case of Sidney Reid, who hasn't even been indicted, to the cases of convicted criminals. And no matter how much you try to deflect the issue away from your blatant ignorance, you can't unring that bell.

OK. You got me with that one. It's pretty good. I was chuckling. A well deserved thumbs up. 🙂 I shouldn't be  laughing, but it's true.

Especially anyone who’s preparing your food.

How often does it happen that a grand jury doesn't indict? And how often has it happened to Pirro?

99.99% indictment, I've seen quoted.

I think pirro has at least three failures in her brief tenure.

She should go back to wiretapping with her buddy Bernie Kerek.

With DC voting about 97% lefty, they'd have a hard time empaneling a grand jury to indict anyone if it helped Trump.  Or their law abiding citizens.

They voted 92.5% for Kamala in 2024.  They must love getting carjacked.  Those who can afford a car, I mean...

BTW, the reason I mention carjacking specifically is that they recently changed the criteria for reporting violent crime to help their stats.  You can carjack someone, but it's not counted as a violent crime unless you use a deadly weapon.  So a violent gang of youths pulling ladies out of their car doesn't count.

Yeah.  It means the grand jury pool in DC is hugely lefty and dystopian.
