George Clooney had to step away from the Venice Film Festival this week after falling ill, though the actor has faced far more serious health challenges in the past.

 

The 64-year-old star of Noah Baumbach’s competition entry Jay Kelly cut short a press session on Wednesday and skipped a private dinner with colleagues and Netflix executives.

 

Sources said Clooney began feeling unwell in the afternoon and was advised to rest ahead of Thursday’s scheduled press conference and the film’s premiere. His sudden withdrawal meant he was absent from an evening gathering with Baumbach, 55, and co-stars Adam Sandler and Laura Dern, both 58.

 

A representative later explained that Clooney is suffering from a sinus infection and, following medical advice, has had to limit his festival commitments. Despite the setback, organisers expect him to rejoin promotional duties once he has recovered.
