A fatal road crash caused severe traffic disruption in central Bangkok on the morning of 1 September, after a motorcyclist was struck and killed by a public bus on Asok Montri Road.

The collision occurred at around 07:40, near the busy Asok-Sukhumvit intersection, outside Sino-Thai Tower, within the jurisdiction of Thong Lor Police Station. Reports from traffic monitoring services FM91 and JS100 confirmed that a motorcycle rider attempting to overtake on the outside, lost control and slid under the rear wheels of Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) bus route 136, which was travelling from Mo Chit 2 to Khlong Toei depot. The male rider died instantly at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.

The crash caused significant congestion along Asok Montri Road, with tailbacks stretching as far as Rama IX intersection during the morning rush hour.

In a statement issued later in the day, the BMTA expressed its “deep regret” over the incident and extended condolences to the victim’s family. Officials confirmed that accident investigators and insurance representatives from Muang Thai Insurance and Dhipaya Insurance had been dispatched to handle compensation claims.

“The BMTA will ensure the family receives full compensation under the Road Accident Victim Protection Act and vehicle insurance coverage arranged by the authority,” the statement read. The BMTA also pledged to act as co-host in the victim’s funeral rites as a gesture of respect.

The authority said it would review safety procedures and reinforce strict operational standards for its personnel to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Looks like the bus changed lane to the left and quickly reverted back to the right lane squeezing over the poor biker. The biker commit to quickly to the overtake, which caused his demise. RIP...
