In a startling incident on Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya last night, a woman was spotted running topless and darting in front of a car, prompting a swift response from local rescue teams and police.

The Sawang Borriboon Dhammastan Pattaya Rescue Foundation was called to the bustling road after a motorist reported narrowly avoiding a collision with the woman. Fortunately, he managed to stop in time. Eyewitnesses noted that the woman, estimated to be between 35 and 40 years old, was wearing only shorts and appeared visibly disoriented.

Efforts to intervene initially proved challenging as she ignored attempts by rescuers to assist her. Demonstrating signs of confusion and fear, the woman eventually accepted help after rescuers offered her a cloth to cover herself and persuaded her to sit on the footpath for a conversation.

Following this, she was taken to Pattaya Bhattamakun Hospital for a medical examination. The underlying cause of her erratic behaviour remains unspecified, and it is unclear whether she was under the influence of alcohol or substances at the time. Her nationality has not been confirmed, although it is suspected that she may be Thai.

Mueang Pattaya Police officers also attended the scene, undertaking investigations to uncover the reasons behind her actions. Authorities are keen to establish measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future, ensuring the safety of both motorists and pedestrians.

This incident draws parallels with a similar case in Phatthalung, where on August 26, locals witnessed a Thai man running naked through their village. Police investigation revealed the man, who was thought to be mentally ill, was fulfilling a vow he made to a sacred spirit, believing it would bring him true love. His family later confirmed his mental health challenges, noting previous similar incidents.

Such incidents highlight ongoing concerns regarding public safety and mental health awareness in Thai communities. As investigations continue, local authorities are expected to enhance measures to address and support those experiencing distress in public, aiming to ensure well-being and prevent disruptions on the roads.

Meanwhile, community discussions have emerged around mental health awareness, advocating for increased support and resources for individuals demonstrating distress or confusion in public settings. This ongoing dialogue emphasises the importance of compassionate intervention and preventive strategies.
