The Border Patrol Police have intercepted a huge shipment of methamphetamine pills being trafficked from northern Thailand to the South, with the drugs believed to be destined for a neighbouring country.

On 1 September, Police Lieutenant General Nitinat Langyanai, Commissioner of the Border Patrol Police (BPP), ordered an operation led by Acting Police Colonel Thawanthorn Phutthanaphisut, head of the Cross-Border Crime Suppression Centre, in coordination with the 43rd Border Patrol Police unit.

The joint task force arrested six suspects and seized 1,376,000 methamphetamine pills, along with three vehicles. The arrests took place along the Krabi–Surat Thani road in both Krabi’s Plai Phraya district and Surat Thani’s Phra Saeng district.

The operation followed intelligence reports indicating that a trafficking ring was transporting a large consignment of meth pills from the North to the South, before smuggling them across the border. Officers disguised themselves and monitored several key routes before spotting suspicious vehicles. A search uncovered the concealed drugs, leading to the arrests.

The suspects face charges of possessing and distributing a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine) for commercial purposes, an offence considered to endanger state security and public safety. They have been handed over for further legal proceedings.
