In a disturbing case unfolding in the Isaan province of Phichit, a Buddhist monk has been accused of sexually assaulting three young boys, whom he allegedly lured to a temple with promises of gifts. As investigations progress, the community is grappling with shock and anger.

The allegations came to light when teachers at a local school overheard rumours of the assaults and noticed concerning behaviour among some students. Delving deeper, the teachers uncovered that at least three boys had been victimised.

One of the boys recounted his experience, detailing frequent visits to the temple to assist with chores. On one occasion, he stayed overnight and was approached by the monk, who tried to remove his trousers. The boy managed to escape by feigning a trip to the bathroom. From a safe distance, he witnessed the monk assaulting another boy, too fearful to fend off the attack.

Another victim described a trip to a durian plantation with the monk and several friends. Sharing a room with the monk, he endured repeated assaults, resulting in a genital infection.

In an attempt to silence the boys, the monk reportedly offered gifts such as tumblers. Despite their reservations, some boys felt coerced into visiting the temple.

A particularly unsettling revelation came from a teacher, who shared that the monk had previously sought permission to teach Dhamma at the school, a request that was still pending approval by the school director.

Family members of the victims are grappling with disbelief. One victim's aunt expressed her dismay, having trusted the monks and regularly engaged in merit-making at the temple. She now seeks justice and vows to pursue legal action to the fullest extent possible.

The temple's abbot, unaware of the incidents, claims not to have observed any suspicious actions from the accused monk. Despite being confronted with the allegations, the monk denied any wrongdoing.

Accompanied by teachers, the boys bravely filed a formal complaint at the local police station. However, the subsequent legal proceedings remain undisclosed to the public.

This case has prompted a deep search for answers within the community, with many reflecting on their understanding of trust and safety in their sacred spaces. As the investigation continues, the focus remains on ensuring justice for the young victims and restoring faith in the temple community.

The weekly monk story that keeps the Sangha Council active! No sleep for the wicked!

The monk converted from being a Catholic priest.  Perhaps the boys will look for payback in a few years when they're not so weak and vulnerable.

Detach his head from his body.
