Trump Orders Pentagon Rebranding: Now the 'Department of War'

US President Donald Trump has announced a bold move to rebrand the Pentagon as the 'Department of War'. The change, he claims, reflects a stronger message of readiness.

The executive order, set to be signed on Friday, will direct the Department of Defense to adopt the name as a secondary title. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth will take on the new moniker of Secretary of War. The Pentagon, originally known as the War Department, was a cabinet-level agency from 1789 until its transformation in 1947.

However, legally altering the name requires more than presidential orders. The establishment of executive departments is under the US Congress's purview, necessitating an amendment for any official name change. Trump remains confident that Congress would back this shift, citing America's past military victories under the original title.

Trump's executive order highlights that the term 'Department of War' projects a more forceful image than 'Department of Defense', which he argues limits perception to defensive action. The BBC released excerpts from the order, emphasising this stance. Furthermore, both Trump and Hegseth have articulated a desire to shift the department's focus away from diversity and equity programs towards a stronger emphasis on military prowess and a "warrior ethos."

Trump has often floated this rebranding idea, asserting that the US's remarkable history in global conflicts supports the move. He remains optimistic about legislative backing, expressing certainty that "Congress will go along if we need that."

This potential rebranding signals a significant shift in messaging and emphasis within the US military establishment. With Trump and Hegseth's strong advocacy, the focus will be on enhancing warfighting capabilities. The success of this bid rests on navigating the legalities in Congress.

  • Trump was never a builder. He was a brander. That's what he knows. He has no idea what he's doing as president. So back to what he knows. Branding. What a feckless moron.

  • Now that will put an end to his nobel prize dream. Should have renamed it to Department of peace and love making.

  • Trump's priorities are truly bizarre.  He seems obsessed with renaming as a way of ensuring his legacy. The next President can reverse all of these changes.

Department of War?  So does that mean that Donny is now going to use the US military in his wars against the USA's former friends and allies and those Americans who disagree with him?  Is the US military united in their support for Trump?

Hopefully not I’m thinking it’s a response to XI little Kim and putins summit .

"However, legally altering the name requires more than presidential orders." Just one more attempt to deflect attention from his involvement with Epstein....

Yeah. I've no issue with the name.  I wonder how much the name change, and all the associated work behind the scenes to do it, will cost the US taxpayer.

Calling Trump a “brander” ignores the fact that he actually governed. He rolled back energy and financial regulations, appointed judges, and signed tax reform. More importantly, he tightened the southern border, built new barriers, and stepped up enforcement against violent gangs like MS-13. That’s not branding, that’s policy with real-world impact.

You may not like his approach, but to say he “has no idea what he's doing” doesn’t square with the record. He had an agenda, and he carried it out.

Good.  It's more rational.

The Department Of War
The War Department
The Secretary Of War
The War Industry
War Corporations

Heck! Call it what it truly is. "Defense?"  PFFTTT!

  • Popular Post

Except he does not have the authority to do this without Congress. Again.

The Pentagon should paint red and white rings on the roof and be done with it.

Cute line, Jingthing, but parroting a soundbite about Ukraine doesn’t change the fact that Trump rolled back regulations, signed tax reform, reshaped the courts, and cracked down on gangs like MS-13. That’s a record of governance, not branding. You may dislike it, but dismissing it as clueless ignores reality.

Are you all gradually getting used to the agenda? Sniffin' the coffee yet?

This should be the most apparent revelation of what Trump and MAGA stand for. Anyone, especially those who are my fellow countrymen (USA), who continues to support them is an anathema to me. 😡

" WAR OFFICE, DO YOU WANT A FIGHT!"

Can and most likely will reverse all of these changes. His stench will be tough to get out, but not impossible.

So, instead of addressing Trump’s policies, your revelation is just anger at fellow Americans? That’s not enlightenment, that’s resentment dressed up as moral outrage.

True. The Oval Office will most likely need to be completely torn down and rebuilt. Even though he spends most of his time on the golf course or in bed, typing furiously with his little fingers, the stench of butt, armpit, ketchup and make-up will be impossible to get out without a total renovation.
