Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai (BJT) Party, is ready to take the helm as Thailand's new prime minister. The decision comes as House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha has slotted Friday for the critical vote. With obstacles cleared, Mr Anutin is expected to win, while the Pheu Thai Party backs rival candidate Chaikasem Nitisiri.

On Wednesday, Mr Anutin announced plans for a minority government, gaining support from the opposition People's Party (PP), sparking curiosity over the future cabinet composition. Insiders hint at BJT reclaiming the interior minister post, with the Transport Ministry also tipped to remain under its control, possibly led by Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn.

The anticipated ministerial shuffle includes Chaichanok Chidchob, Bhumjaithai's secretary-general, likely heading the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. Paradorn Prissanananthakul, a former deputy House speaker, is suspected to become the PM's Office Minister. Meanwhile, the Klatham Party is primed to hold onto the Agriculture and Education Ministries, potentially gaining the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security.

The United Thai Nation Party could grasp the reins of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, with the Finance, Commerce, and Foreign Affairs Ministries anticipated to be allocated to independent candidates.

Chaikasem, from Pheu Thai, declared his readiness to steer the nation, promising immediate parliamentary dissolution to usher in elections should he win. "We will adhere to our commitments if successful," he declared, reported the Bangkok Post.

PP leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut negated any internal conflicts or free voting amongst MPs. He emphasised their steadfast alliance with Bhumjaithai, dismissing any talk of a "free vote". He expressed confidence in their decision, aiming to guide the government's efforts towards a new constitution.

While some party supporters are wary of aligning with Bhumjaithai, Mr Natthaphong stressed it’s a calculated move, committing to accountability should Mr Anutin not fulfil his pledges.

Hand on heart, does it make a blind bit of difference which snout is in which trough?

PP are hopeless. Thaksin made suckers of them, and now Anutin will, too. Four months? Anutin will be in power for four years.
