A police officer in Phetchaburi shot dead a husband-and-wife team who sold eggs at a local market before turning the gun on himself in what investigators believe was the culmination of a year-long dispute over price-cutting.

On the morning of 6 September, police were called to Talat 18 Met Market in Phetchaburi following reports of multiple shootings. Officers from Mueang Phetchaburi Police Station, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Sunanta Rodphet, arrived at the scene with medical staff from Phrachomklao Hospital and local rescue volunteers.

Inside a stall selling eggs, officers discovered the bodies of Siwaporn Jongpanyapraphan, 31 and her husband Kritsada Ketkaew, 33. Both had been fatally shot. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots before seeing the victims collapse in pools of blood.

The body of the gunman was found on the upper floor of a disused cinema. He was identified as Pol. Senior Sgt. Maj. Somsak Permsap, attached to Mueang Phetchaburi Police Station. A Sig Sauer P320 pistol was found in his right hand. Investigators confirmed he had taken his own life immediately after the killings.

Initial enquiries revealed that the officer had been embroiled in a long-running feud with the couple over the sale of cut-price eggs. The dispute had reportedly led to frequent arguments over the past year.

According to police, on the morning of the shooting, Sgt. Maj. Somsak confronted Kritsada at his stall and shot him dead. His wife Siwaporn rushed to his side but was also shot and killed. The officer then fled briefly before climbing into the old cinema building where he committed suicide.
