A hospital nurse was left devastated after stopping to help at a car crash, only to find that the victim was her boyfriend.

At 00:45 on 6 September, the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Rescue Foundation, together with paramedics from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital, were called to a car crash at Thung Makham Yong intersection, where Road 347 meets Road 309, Wat Tum Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District.

The scene involved a white Mitsubishi Pajero, registration from Bangkok, which had collided with a lamppost on the central reservation. The vehicle was heavily damaged, particularly on the driver’s side, leaving the occupant trapped. Rescue workers used hydraulic cutting tools to free the man from the wreckage, a process that took more than 30 minutes.

During the rescue operation, a young woman, a nurse from the hospital’s emergency department, arrived at the scene and immediately began assisting the injured, unaware that the victim was her boyfriend. The couple had left Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital only five minutes apart, with the man driving ahead in his own car. The nurse, travelling back to her home in Bang Pa Han District, spotted the crash and instinctively stopped to help.

It was only upon seeing his face clearly that she realised the truth, leaving her in shock and grief. Despite efforts to resuscitate him and provide care during transport, the man’s injuries were too severe and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Mr. Somnuek, 42, confirmed as the boyfriend of the nurse who assisted at the scene. In a tearful statement, the nurse recounted how she had followed him from the hospital, never expecting to encounter such a tragedy.

Police from Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Station attended the scene and confirmed the vehicle had struck a high-voltage lamppost on the central reservation, causing significant damage. The body has been sent to the Institute of Forensic Science in Pathum Thani for examination. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
