A 59-year-old woman has been found dead in a rice field in Sing Buri, believed to have been electrocuted by an electric wire she had installed to protect her property. Her body lay undiscovered for more than five days.

Police in Bang Rachan district said they were alerted on the evening of 7 September, to the grim discovery at a small shelter in a paddy field in Moo 8, Choeng Klat subdistrict. Officers arrived with a forensic doctor and rescue workers to find the decomposed body of Ms Namfah Sophon, known locally as “Noi”, lying on her back with her legs entangled in an electrified wire surrounding the shelter.

The wire had been installed to deter thieves and animals. Burn marks indicated she had suffered a fatal electric shock. The doctor estimated she had been dead for at least five days.

A neighbour, Ms Aunruang Jitwicha, said she became suspicious after noticing Ms Namfah’s pickup truck had been left parked for several days with the driver’s door open. Concerned, she finally went to check and made the discovery.

According to relatives, Ms Namfah lived with her elderly mother and would often drive out to the field to watch over her crops and equipment. Police believe she may have lost her footing while checking the property, falling onto the wire.

Officers confirmed the death was being treated as accidental. The body has been sent to a local temple for funeral rites.
