Poland shoots down Russian drones in first NATO clash

Poland’s military shot down multiple Russian suicide drones that violated its airspace during overnight attacks on Ukraine, marking the first direct engagement between NATO forces and Russian weapons since the war began.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday, when Polish air defenses scrambled to intercept the drones after they “repeatedly crossed” into Polish territory. Authorities urged residents to remain indoors as military units tracked and destroyed the objects.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed the engagement, warning that the drones “could have posed a threat” to civilians and infrastructure. “The operation is ongoing,” he said in remarks to reporters.

The escalation triggered a wider NATO response. Alliance fighter jets, including U.S. F-35s, took off from bases in Slovakia and Romania as part of a coordinated mission to neutralize the threat. The show of force underscores NATO’s readiness to defend its airspace amid rising tensions along the alliance’s eastern flank.

Moscow has not yet commented on the incident. However, Western officials see the breach as a significant test of NATO’s defense commitments, particularly under Article 5, which treats an attack on one member as an attack on all.

While the Polish government has not confirmed whether it will formally protest to Russia, analysts warn the episode could fuel calls for tougher measures against Moscow and heighten the risk of further escalation in the region.

The drone downing highlights both the intensifying dangers of the war spilling into NATO territory and the alliance’s swift readiness to act.

Key Takeaways:

  • Poland downed Russian suicide drones that violated its airspace.

  • NATO fighters, including U.S. F-35s, scrambled in response.

  • First direct NATO engagement with Russian forces since war began.

Haven't we had this story before ?  when 2 Poles were killed on their farmland

by a "Russian" missile ?   guess what.

Article 4 have just been activated

Poland Calls to Activate NATO Article 4: What Does It Mean?

https://www.newsweek.com/nato-article-4-poland-russia-drones-airspace-2127438

edit note my Norwegian article have been moderated to requested activation of article 4

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said his country would formally request the invocation of NATO's Article 4 in response to the violation of his country's airspace by 19 Russian drones, some of which were shot down.

NATO's Article 4 states: "The Parties will consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened

I'd hold off a few moments before saying that...IMHO very unlikely that Putin deliberately targeted a NATO member..but if he did then batten down the hatches and prepare the bunkers  for WWIII.  ?????

He didn't target Poland, he flew them through NATO airspace, in an attempt to see how much he can provoke.

If this on passes, he may go one step further

'

it wasn't 1 or 2 Drones johng 19 were shot down by Nato Aircraft.

Let's hope Poland does not provoke a world war yet again.

Well NATO has been facilitating, funding, organising providing guidance and intel for Ukrainian strikes on Russia for how long ?

I still find it hard to believe  the Russians would fly the drones through NATO/Polish air space  but if they did then its perfectly reasonable that they are shot down.

And remember the previous point about the  2 Poles  killed on their farmland

by a "Russian" missile..guessed yet who did it ?

Since Trump became President, it's "open bar" for Putin! 🙂

Perhaps if Trump had been president the war would never of happened ?

or negotiations might not have been sabotaged and the war ended very quickly

we will know when they unveil the time machine.

Nope, I don't comment on conspiracy theories, and certainly not to Russian stooges.

But oh I see now, a hardcore cult disciple. I rest my case

So what is your point?

You have not commented on the fact that this "false flag" has been tried before

as evidenced in the news link I provided above...instead you call me a conspiracy theorist and Russian stooge.

I wait to see if this is another false flag  to try and drag NATO into  full on  hot war with Russia..maybe you would like that WWIII ?

I just checked the link, and i's about an Ukraine missile, not a Russian one, which came down near the border by mistake.

How would an Ukraine missile get NATO, which is supporting Ukraine already, involved in the war?

This topic is about NINETEEN Russian drones, of which some were shot down, as they were in Polish airspace, not just one or two that came down by mistake near the border.

So, I stand with my earlier opinion

Putin testing the waters. And checking reactions from the blowhard in the White House.

Sign of desperation in Moscow.

The immediate narrative as is now  was that the evil Russians had deliberately targeted Poland and killed innocent civilians  and as such NATO should launch retaliations....shortly after it was admitted that the missile that killed the Poles was in fact a Ukrainian missile...understand false flag any better now ?

It was the Royal Dutch Airforce F-35's which heroically and with dispatch defended Poland and shot down the drones. The brave Dutch pilots scrambled to the defense of Poland as the barbaric Russians sent lethal drones through Poland's airspace.

Putin's hordes did this because they know Trump won't defend Poland.

There have been court cases where in the filings was stated about the blow jobs he got from underage girls, but is that blowhard?

The war was a planned over many years and it started long ago as Russia financed terrorist groups in the  now occupied region of Ukraine.

I doubt if Putin deliberately had his drones enter Polish airspace. He has his hands full trying to take Ukraine and the last thing he needs is NATO joining in.

Deja-vu ?

Nov. 15, 2022

KYIV, Ukraine — Poland said early Wednesday that an explosion that killed two people at a grain-processing plant near the Ukrainian border had “most likely” been caused by a Russian-made missile, raising the prospect that the NATO alliance would be drawn more directly into the war in Ukraine.

Poland, a NATO member, also said it would most likely invoke Article 4 of the NATO charter, under which members confer when a nation’s territorial integrity or security has been threatened.

The Polish Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the missile that landed the day before had been Russian-made, but President Andrzej Duda was not as definitive, telling reporters, “It was most likely a Russian-made missile, but this is all still under investigation at the moment.”

I understand false claims from a Russia defender,.

The missile came down on 15 November, and was initially believed to be of Russian origin. Only ONE day later it was revealed that it was actually an Ukraine defence missile that had failed to shoot down a Russian missile.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_missile_explosion_in_Poland

According to US intelligence officials, initial assessments suggest that the missile was probably launched by Ukrainian forces at an incoming Russian missile.[10][11]

On 17 November, Head of the Polish International Policy Bureau Jakub Kumoch gave a similar explanation that an air defence missile failed to shoot down the Russian target it sought to intercept; then "[t]he self-destruct system did not work, and this missile led to a tragedy."[32]

:cheesy: They shot down drones. These drones don't shoot back. Which AI wrote this for you?
