BoT: more accounts may be frozen

Featured Replies

Cannot post the link here,  because it's not in English.

The usual excuse: "mules".

(As mules are usually Thai, I don't believe this excuse.

I haven't heard a single Thai lamenting about problems with his bank account.

I have no idea what's going on.)

I just make sure I have enough sources of liquidity and don't  rely on a Thai bank account.

My Thai niece was arrested in BK for allowing a mule account about a month back.

Dragged up to Lamphun for court and held over the weekend, now has to appear in court Lamphun every 2 weeks until further notice. Complete pain as my misses drives her around all the time.

Where is the link? I can read Thai, and I know some of us as well. Thank you

BOT, TCSD and banks hold urgent talks Sunday to ease account freeze measures

Amid growing public concern, the BOT has held discussions with the CCIB and commercial banks, reaching a preliminary agreement to accelerate revisions to both the account-freezing process and the procedures for lifting suspensions. These changes aim to ease the impact on law-abiding account holders.

A joint meeting is scheduled for Sunday (September 14), after which the new measures will be implemented immediately.

There are other languages in the world than Thai and English.

But they didn't write much,  anyway: BoT warned,  that more accounts may be frozen. They will discuss the matter today, sunday, with the commercial banks.  Any measures introduced may start immediately.

PS sorry, didn't see @vinny41

Thais are trying the ignorance excuse, the authorities aren't buying it though

The scam corporations often use just a picture of face and ID of kidnapped Thais to open a Thai bank account. Standard procedure.

So, why wouldn't they do this with other Thais, too? All you need is a pic of @BritManToo's other niece and her ID.

BTW one of the biggest Thai banks once opened a secret account in my name.  I had no idea the account existed.

They did it without any bad intentions (they had just messed up the paperwork),  and couldn't understand why I took it seriously.

For the next 10 years,  I avoided any contact with that bank.

a lawyer friend said only last week her customer gave her thai bank account to a mule\scammer, they are prosecuting, ignorance isn't bliss

No, I mean women lie a lot.

Now that lots of Thais are getting caught up in this mess it seems to have caught the attention of the BoT and action is being taken.  Another meeting today with some developments is reported here:
