Banning mRNA COVID Vaccine Is ‘the Goal,’ Florida Surgeon General Says

The Tampa Bay Times reported:

Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo says he does not want mRNA COVID-19 vaccines to be available in Florida.

In a podcast interview published Sunday, Ladapo was asked about the state’s announcement < https://www.tampabay.com/news/florida-politics/2025/09/03/florida-ends-all-vaccine-mandates-desantis/  > this month that officials intended to end all vaccine mandates. He said the controversy over the announcement was overblown because vaccines would continue to be available to those who want them — with one potential exception.

The goal with the mRNA is for that not to be available to anyone, because no one should be using that one,” Ladapo said, in an apparent reference to the COVID-19 shots.

The statement is the latest in a series of harsh criticisms of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines from Florida’s top medical official. In January 2024, the Florida Department of Health recommended < https://www.floridahealth.gov/newsroom/2024/01/20240103-halt-use-covid19-mrna-vaccines.pr.html > against the use of those vaccines, saying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration had not proven them to be safe.

And here Joe Ladapo's statement of January 3 last year.

With RFK jr now in charge, the uphill battle is daily gaining momentum.

A true anti-vaxer quack who has spread misinformation, promoted debunked medical treatments, falsified government research findings and endangered the lives of children in his state.

Joseph Ladapo

"Ladapo is best known for his opposition to COVID-19 mitigation measures[3][4][5] and promotion of COVID-19 misinformation.[6] Ladapo has promoted unproven treatments, opposed vaccine and mask mandates, questioned the safety of COVID-19 vaccines, and contradicted professional medical organizations."

2024 U.S. measles outbreak

In a letter to parents amid a 2024 measles outbreak at a Fort Lauderdale-area school, Ladapo acknowledged the "normal" recommendation that unvaccinated children stay home, but stated his department was "deferring to parents or guardians to make decisions about school attendance."[41][42] Ladapo's advice contradicts CDC guidance, which suggests that anyone not previously infected with measles or immunized against the disease observe a 21-day quarantine.[43]

Katelyn Jetelina and Kristen Panthagani, writing for Scientific American, referred to Ladapo's advice that children without immunization to measles could continue attending school after exposure as "unprecedented and dangerous".[44] Leana Wen, in a column published by the Washington Post, characterized Ladapo's decision as "outrageous" due to the danger posed by measles.[

Florida surgeon general altered key findings in study on Covid-19 vaccine safety

Joseph Ladapo defended the move, saying revisions are a normal part of assessing such analysis.

04/24/2023

"TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo personally altered a state-driven study about Covid-19 vaccines last year to suggest that some doses pose a significantly higher health risk for young men than had been established by the broader medical community, according to a newly obtained document.

Ladapo’s changes, released as part of a public records request, presented the risks of cardiac death to be more severe than previous versions of the study. He later used the final document in October to bolster disputed claims that Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines were dangerous to young men.

The surgeon general, a well-known Covid-19 vaccine skeptic, faced a backlash from the medical community after he made the assertions, which go against guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and American Academy of Pediatrics. But Ladapo’s statements aligned well with Gov. Ron DeSantis’ stance against mandatory Covid-19 vaccination."
