Chagas disease, transmitted by triatomine insects known as "kissing bugs," is now considered endemic in the United States, according to the CDC. While kissing bugs have not been reported in Michigan, nearby states like Ohio and Indiana have seen their presence. The disease is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, which is present in the feces of infected kissing bugs.

Transmission occurs when these feces enter the body, often through bites or mucous membranes. In the acute phase, symptoms may include fever, fatigue, and swelling at the bite site. If left untreated, the disease can progress to the chronic phase, leading to severe heart and digestive complications. The CDC emphasizes the need for increased awareness, better screening, and public health measures to address this emerging threat.

I am immediately suspending my kissing-bug kink activities until a cure has be found.
