Putin Bombards Ukraine After Airspace Violations Spark NATO Alarm

Russian forces launched one of their heaviest overnight assaults on Ukraine, firing 580 drones and 40 missiles across nine regions, killing at least three and injuring dozens, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. The barrage struck infrastructure, factories, and homes, leaving Ukrainian air defences battling for 11 straight hours. Kyiv reported shooting down 552 drones and 31 missiles.

The attacks came just hours after Donald Trump warned of “big trouble” following multiple Russian provocations against NATO. Three MiG-31 warplanes violated Estonian airspace for 12 minutes on Friday, prompting a swift NATO response with F-35 jets. Separately, two Russian aircraft buzzed a Polish oil platform in the Baltic Sea, breaching its safety zone.

Poland scrambled its own and allied jets early Saturday to secure its airspace, raising air defence readiness before standing down once Russia ended its strikes. NATO and European leaders condemned the actions, calling them “reckless” and “brazen.” Estonia’s foreign minister described the violation as “unprecedentedly aggressive,” while MI6 chief Sir Richard Moore branded Vladimir Putin a “liar” bent on imperial domination.

Calls are growing for NATO to establish clear “red lines” against Russian incursions. Retired Air Marshal Greg Bagwell said Moscow must face “decisive and ruthless” consequences if those lines are crossed.

Zelensky urged allies to accelerate air defence deliveries and impose tougher sanctions, warning that Russia’s strategy is to terrorise civilians rather than achieve military necessity.

Key Takeaways

  • Massive Russian strike: 580 drones and 40 missiles launched, with Ukraine downing most but at least three civilians killed.

  • NATO tensions rising: Russian jets violated Estonian airspace and buzzed a Polish oil rig, sparking allied responses.

  • Calls for tougher action: Zelensky demands more defences, while Western leaders debate NATO “red lines” for Russia.

Yes, I'm sure Putin is shaking in his boots since Trump has been so incredibly harsh with him!

This launch cost Russia many millions of dollars. If their target is civilians, then casualties of 3 people sound like an absolutely inefficient result. So either they are so stupid as to repeat such strikes again and again, or their target is not civilians.

Putin's strategy is terrorism to wear down the morale of the Ukrainian people.
