Trang Police Arrest Man, 26, Over Fatal Stabbing of Mechanic

Police in Trang have arrested a 26-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a car mechanic in Huai Yot district on 20 September. The suspect, identified as Mr. Chainarong, was detained outside his home in Mueang district under a warrant issued by the Trang Provincial Court. He faces charges of murder.

The death occurred at approximately 18:20 on 20 September when the victim, Mr. Prakong, 49, returned from hunting with a firearm. He encountered the suspect at his house in Nong Chang Laen subdistrict, leading to a heated confrontation. During the altercation, Mr. Chainarong allegedly stabbed the victim with a knife, inflicting severe injuries that led to his death and the suspect then stole the victim’s gun.

Investigators said the suspect then fled the scene. Police later traced him and launched a coordinated operation involving officers from Trang Provincial Police Investigation Division and Huai Yot Police Station. He was taken into custody with several items of evidence, including a knife, clothing and the motorcycle used in his escape.

During questioning, Mr. Chainarong admitted to the killing, claiming it stemmed from a personal dispute over a romantic affair. Police also confirmed that he had a history of offences, including three previous drug-related cases. Records show he had displayed violent behaviour while under the influence, once brandishing a fake gun at his mother, sister and neighbours, prompting police intervention only a month earlier.

Authorities have charged him with murder and will submit the case to prosecutors. Investigators are also reviewing the suspect’s criminal background as part of the proceedings. Police have stated that evidence, including the seized items, will be presented in court to support the case.
