President Donald Trump unveiled a new peace plan Monday to end Israel’s siege on Gaza and, while the plan had initially received buy-in from top Arab leaders, last-minute changes made just moments before its unveiling have infuriated Arab officials, according to a report Tuesday from Axios.

“Netanyahu managed to negotiate several edits into the text, in particular on the conditions and timetable for Israel's withdrawal from Gaza,” wrote Axios reporter Barak Ravid, an Israeli journalist who spoke with multiple Arab officials on the condition of anonymity.

“Officials from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Turkey were furious over the changes, according to sources with knowledge. The Qataris even tried to convince the Trump administration not to release the detailed plan on Monday due to those objections. The White House released it anyway, and pushed the Arab and Muslim countries to support the plan.”

Arab leaders 'furious' over last-minute changes to Trump’s peace plan: report

One report from "anonymous" sources does not make an accurate statement. The leaders of Qatar, Egypt, Turkey and the Palestinian Authority have all endorsed the peace plan.

I expect that Axios spoke with junior  officials who were not part of the process and who had their own views. It is a common occurrence whenever important policy or legislation is released anywhere in the world. What matters is whether the decision makers have agreed, and that's what they did.

All that you have done is to repeat Hamas talking points. You did not read the  peace proposal, nor did you identify the sections which were improper. Yours is a standard response that seeks to justify Hamas position in continuing a war which it started and  has lost. Your position  will result in more death. Good job.

What's your point? An unattributed statement and a dead link don't mean anything.

There is only one solution to this and we all know what it is.

According to a senior Hamas official, the group plans to reject US President Donald Trump's proposed peace plan for Gaza. Hamas views the plan, which heavily favours Israel, as non-negotiable as it demands disarmament and the surrender of hostages. The proposal also includes the deployment of an International tabilisation Force in Gaza, a move Hamas equates to a new form of occupation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accepted the plan during talks at the White House, despite opposition from Palestinian factions. Hamas is still evaluating the plan with input from its leadership inside and outside Gaza, but officials like military commander Ez al-Din al-Haddad remain committed to resistance. While some within Gaza's population express tentative support if it means an end to the conflict, the conditions remain a point of considerable dispute.

Reactions to the plan have further strained relations, as it requires all hostages to be handed over in a single exchange. Doubts persist about Israel’s intentions following the release, especially after recent Israeli military actions against Hamas leaders in Doha. The plan’s proposed buffer zone between Gaza and Egypt, with potentially Israeli oversight, adds another layer of complexity. Netanyahu’s recent statements, advocating for continued Israeli military presence in parts of Gaza, contradict Trump's framework.

The situation remains tense, as calls for a ceasefire echo through Gaza. Residents and experts warn that a rejection by Hamas could escalate hostilities further. Palestinian journalist Fathi Sabah highlighted the dire conditions in Gaza, stressing the population’s desperate need for peace, even at significant compromise.

Israel's military campaign, launched in retaliation for the 7 October 2023 attack led by Hamas, which resulted in over 1,200 Israeli fatalities, continues to exert a heavy toll on Gaza, with reports of massive casualties and humanitarian crises.

Key Takeaways

  • Hamas is likely to reject Trump's peace plan, citing bias toward Israel.
  • Plan demands Hamas disarmament and a contested buffer zone arrangement.
  • Ongoing conflict in Gaza exacerbates human suffering and tensions.

Israel has shown that it  follows agreements when there are peace treaties and truces.

Are you kidding?

Many human rights organisations ( Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch etc) and even the UN have documented repeated Israeli violations of agreements and international law -such as continuing settlement expansion in the West Bank despite the Oslo Accords, or violating ceasefire terms through targeted assassinations and military incursions, most recently firing missiles at the ceasefire negotiators in Qatar!
Netanyahu and cabinet publicly say the don’t want a ceasefire.

In 2014, the Gaza ceasefire saw Israeli strikes continue before the agreed time, and similar incidents occurred in earlier truces. Israel also killed hundreds of civilians right before the ceasefire earlier this year.

The Oslo peace process was never fully realised because Israel continued building settlements on Palestinian land, something explicitley against the text of agreements.

The International Court of Justice (2004) ruled that Israel’s West Bank separation wall and settlement activity were violations of international law.

Israel did not have a peace treaty or agreement with Qatar. No violation occurred.

Israel has had agreements in place with Jordan and Egypt. To date, the only significant violations have been when  Jordanians or  Egyptians have shot Israelis at the border crossing. The latest incident occurred a couple weeks ago when a Jordanian-Palestinian truck driver carrying aid for Gaza killed two Israelis at the border crossing between Jordan and Israel. The undeclared truce with Saudi Arabia has held with no significant violations. Even the  silent agreement with Syria in respect to their shared border is holding.

The issues with Gaza arise from the various Islamic militant factions with the support of Hamas  launching repeated attacks on israel. Hamas would say, we did not know  and  have a laugh. The Oslo Agreements were not fully realized because the Palestinian Authority  would not implement the required and necessary  changes. You ignore that Hamas and Fatah-Palestinian Authority have been at war with each other for 20 years. Hamas executed or expelled the critical Fatah  personnel from Gaza. Hamas has been inciting in the  West Bank for decades and has sabotaged the palestinian Authority for decades. You ignore the fact that both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority have refused to hold elections as neither wishes to give up power. You can't implement agreements if the local government does not have a mandate to do anything.

The plan was flawed from the start without the participation of Hamas and Qatar. The core contention from Hamas's perspective were the no guaranteed timeline for a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and dismantling of Hamas military infrastructure. Trump and Netanyahu are dictating the plan that was seen as completely biased to Israel. A peace plan is urgently needed to stop the humanitarian castastrophe. Trump's leadership on this is appalling as he is succumbing to the manipulation of Netanyahu.

Yes, there was internal fighting between Palestinians.

You ignore what I said about illegal settlements.

The 1995 assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin by an Extremist Jew allowed Netanyahu to come to power and he was openly hostile to Oslo.

Netanyahu delayed and obstructed agreed-upon withdrawals, such as the Hebron Protocol and the Wye River Memorandum. He referred to Oslo as "a disaster" and boasted about sabotaging the Accords in a leaked video from 2001.

One of the most blatant Israeli violations of Oslo was the continued construction of illegal settlementsin the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Between 1993 (Oslo) and 2000 (Camp David), the number of settlers in the West Bank doubled which violated the principle of final status negotiations and sent a clear message that Israel was flexing its control, not preparing to withdraw- blatant violation of Oslo. Under Oslo, Israel was supposed to facilitate Palestinian development and transfer authority, not create conditions(collective punishment, blockade, restrictive movement)that made Palestinian governance nearly impossible.

Israel agreed to withdraw from the West Bank, NOT steal 60% of it, including the most fertile land!
But you blame the Palestinians 555.

Hamas are a bunch of crooks.

US policy makers on their favorable stance towards Israel as always, are also crooks,

Israel and it's actions since long are a bunch of crooks.

Europeans are equally a bunch of crooks but more coward kind.

The UN is the biggest crook as they can only repeat that the situation is sooo "concerning"...but nothing else.

.....but in the middle of this mess that was created since the end of WW2, you have innocent civilians on all sides, who are paying a heavy price due to their own crooks in power. And that's the sad bit of this never ending story in Gaza-Palestine-West Bank..

Labeling an entire people “inhumane” or “scum” is hateful and ignores well‑documented history of oppression.

Since Israel’s occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, first began in June 1967, Israel’s ruthless policies of land confiscation, illegal settlement and dispossession, coupled with rampant institutionalized discrimination, have inflicted immense suffering on Palestinians, depriving them of their basic rights

https://www.amnesty.org/en/projects/israels-occupation-of-palestinian-territory/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

The Occupied Palestinian Territory faces a protracted protection and political crisis characterized by more than 56 years of Israeli military occupation, 16 years of the Gaza blockade, internal Palestinian divisions, lack of adherence to international humanitarian and human rights law, and recurrent escalations of hostilities between Israeli security forces and Palestinian armed groups.

Israel has maintained military rule over some portion of the Palestinian population for all but six months of its 73-year history. It did so over the vast majority of Palestinians inside Israel from 1948 and until 1966. From 1967 until the present, it has militarily ruled over Palestinians in the OPT, excluding East Jerusalem. By contrast, it has since its founding governed all Jewish Israelis, including settlers in the OPT since the beginning of the occupation in 1967, under its more rights-respecting civil law.

Cold blooded analysis totally ignoring the facts on the ground. Looking smart from the outside but deeply stupid and ignorant for all those who understand the reality. It is 73 years of Israelis fighting for their right to exist. And 73 years of so called palestinians and other arabs trying to exterminate the Israelis. Yes, this is their only goal. Not freedom or development but the fanatical need to kill and destroy. Your stupidity and illiteracy has placed you on the side of these savages. Not sure that was your initial intention, though.

The US plan calls on Hamas to lay down its weapons and release the Israeli hostages remaining in Gaza, but it allows Israeli troops to occupy parts of Gaza for the foreseeable future. It’s close to the “total victory” over Hamas that Netanyahu has consistently promised the Israeli public, but failed to deliver on the battlefield.

Once again, Netanyahu has outplayed Trump, who considers himself a master deal-maker. When Trump took office in January, he had the upper hand over the Israeli leader, having pushed Netanyahu to agree to a ceasefire in Gaza that went into effect a day before the president’s inauguration on 20 January.

But Netanyahu, who worried that his rightwing government would collapse if he agreed to a permanent truce with Hamas, imposed a new siege on Gaza in early March. With Trump’s blessing, Israel deprived Palestinians of food, medicine and other necessities. Netanyahu then refused to continue negotiations with Hamas, and broke the ceasefire after two months.

Hamas is inclined to accept a Gaza peace plan laid out by Donald Trump but only under certain conditions, officials close to Israel-Hamas negotiations in Qatar told Haaretz. The group is currently consulting with other Palestinian factions to come to a unified position on the plan.

Hamas is expected to clarify that it is willing to accept the outline that was presented to Arab leaders last week, before prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu made changes to it, the outlet added.

A Palestinian source close to Hamas’ leadership told AFP it wanted to amend certain clauses in the plan including in disarmament and Israel’s complete withdrawal from Gaza.

The group also wants guarantees that no assassination attempts will be made on its members inside or outside the territory.

Via NATO? The NORTH ATLANTIC Treaty Organisation?

OK, why not? After all, they allow Israel and Australia to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest these days, so why not start the same senseless rot and woke contagion in European security?

Anyway, last we heard is that Trump despises NATO until it fulfills the essential world security role that the American military and public are increasingly too chicken to do. No 'boots on the ground' in Eastern Europe, on-again off-again arms supplies (with "Do not dare to use without US approval!"" stickers). May as well ship them lucky rabbit foot totems and save US taxpayers some money.

But who can blame them after the questionable 'Mission Accomplished' claims after their previous forays in the desert? Talk about pissing on an ant's nest.
