I'm confused!.

You are saying the death rate pre 1940's was much higher?

Logically that means the death rate is lower post 1940's following the discovery of penicillin and the development of vaccines.

Agree an increase in the standard of living helps, but essentially your post makes no sense.

You need to do better research.

This forum is dominated by old people. Not sure why you even started it. People in the US with little kids don't read it.

They don't need to read it. They are generally well educated about the risk of disease.

Why? It's obvious to anyone but the most ignorant of people .

Try researching the topic first.

Not necessary in this case.

We aren't talking some new discovery. Vaccines have been proven since Edward Jenner started work on the smallpox vaccine in the late 1700's.

Unfortunately with the advent of mass communications i.e. the internet, scientific facts can be challenged by the ignorant nutters as we can see on this thread.

Thank the Lord the internet didn't exist during the times of discovery that benefitted the world or we would have suffered from ignorance and stupidity that we can see manifesting itself nowadays and held back human development immeasurably.

I see you have not researched this topic at all.

The measles vaccine became widely used in the United States following its initial licensing in 1963. The first measles vaccine, developed by John Enders and colleagues using the Edmonston-B strain, was licensed for public use in 1963. A significantly improved and safer version of the vaccine, developed by Maurice Hilleman and colleagues, was introduced in 1968 and became the standard measles vaccine used in the U.S.. This improved vaccine, known as the Edmonston-Enders (or "Moraten") strain, replaced the earlier version and has been the foundation of measles immunization in the United States since 1968. The widespread use of the vaccine, particularly after the introduction of the combined measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine in 1971, led to a dramatic reduction in measles cases.

Most of the improvements came before mass vaccines. 1919 to 1940 saw the biggest drop in deaths by far.

Not sure what you are trying to say, except that vaccines work as evidenced by your post.

I stand by my claim about Edward Jenner. I didn't need to research that. I learnt it at school many years ago.

Unlike some on here, I had a great education and don't need to rely on the internet for, in some cases, dodgy information quoted under the guise of " research".

The data shows other factors played a much bigger role. I guess it went straight over your head. Do better research next time.

Google isn't research. Research takes logical thinking and methodology, both of which you seem to be lacking

You seem to be saying that, because a few millions die from other causes, it's not worth bothering to save a few thousand who may die from preventable diseases.

Never said that at all.

So, do you believe that life-saving measles vaccines should be part of an overall health care plan?

They have been for 50 years.

The question was ...  "do you believe that life-saving measles vaccines should be part of an overall health care plan?

Your replies so far suggest that those few thousand deaths are unimportant, compared to road deaths, etc.

They have been for 50 years. Doctors recommend them.

I'm not a doctor. I don't recommend anything.
