The mother of a teacher involved in beating a first-grade boy in Lampang visited the child’s home to apologise, on 4 October 2025 and offer compensation. The boy had been struck with a metal ruler for taking a snack without permission, resulting in bruising to his face. The teacher’s mother said her son suffers from depression and requested the matter be settled privately.

The incident came to light after a village leader noticed the boy’s absence and injuries and questioned his parents. The child’s parents admitted they had not reported the case sooner because they feared retaliation, as their family lacked funds to provide the child’s daily meals. Police and local leaders are now pursuing action against the teacher, identified only as “Teacher A,” aged 23.

The apology visit took place around 14:00 at the boy’s home, accompanied by the teacher and his mother. They arrived without prior notice, bringing a gift basket to express regret. The boy’s mother refused to accept the apology, stating the matter had gone too far. During the meeting, the teacher reportedly slapped his own face several times, with his mother intervening to stop him.

The teacher’s mother claimed her son suffers from depression and reiterated a willingness to pay compensation, asking the family to end the dispute. She declined to speak further when journalists arrived, stating she feared damage to her son’s reputation. She left before any formal resolution could be reached.

The village leader has rejected informal settlements and arranged for a medical examination, which confirmed bruising consistent with corporal punishment. Local authorities are continuing investigations into the incident. School officials have also been urged to review disciplinary practices to prevent recurrence.

If the ruler had contacted the boy's face edge-on, rather than with the flat, he'd have a far more severe injury.
