Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to convene an extraordinary session of their Regional Border Committee (RBC) this week to address security and cooperation along the shared frontier. The meeting, scheduled for October 15–17, 2025, will be hosted by Cambodia at the Chong Chom permanent border crossing in Kab Choeng District, Surin Province.

The decision followed discussions held on October 10 between the Secretariats of the Thai and Cambodian RBCs. The Thai delegation was led by Maj Gen Kamphanat Waphansuk, Chief of Staff of Thailand’s 2nd Army Region, while the Cambodian delegation was headed by Brig Gen Nith Narong, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 4th Military Region. Both sides confirmed the meeting schedule and agreed on a detailed agenda focused on maintaining stability along the border.

Key topics to be discussed include the repositioning of heavy weapons to their standard locations and cooperation in humanitarian mine-clearing operations. The session will take place under the supervision of the Coordinating Group (CG), ensuring transparency and mutual trust. Officials emphasised that the meeting is vital for fostering peace, strengthening cooperation, and enhancing understanding between the two countries’ armed forces and border communities.

The 2nd Army Region reassured the public that Thailand will act with prudence and determination to safeguard national interests, public safety, and the country’s sovereignty. It also stressed the RBC’s role in preventing tension and promoting peaceful coexistence along the Thai-Cambodian border.

Meanwhile, Thai military surveillance detected several Cambodian activities along the frontier on October 10. Reports indicated sightings of three drones at Chon An Ma, one at Chong Don Ao, two at Prasat Ta Kwai, and seven at Chong Obok. Additionally, white smoke was observed behind Phu Phi, believed to be from tank warm-ups and a 22-wheel truck covered with a black tarp was seen heading toward the border, possibly carrying military equipment.

At present, both countries’ forces remain in their respective positions, with Thai troops maintaining heightened vigilance at surveillance posts to monitor any further developments and prepare for potential responses if required.
