A minibus returning from a Kathin merit-making trip overturned in Khon Kaen on 11 October 2025, killing one person and injuring nine others. The incident occurred after the driver, Mr Nathee Jitthienthae, 68, reportedly fell asleep at the wheel due to fatigue, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and overturn. Emergency responders rushed the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The crash happened on Mittraphap Road near Siam Three Gold shop, in Non Daeng subdistrict, Non Sila district. The minibus, a grey Toyota registered in Udon Thani, was found overturned on the roadside. The deceased, Ms Urai Lunphut, 67, from Mueang Udon Thani, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured included seven women and two men.

According to driver Nathee, the group had travelled from Udon Thani to Wat Phra Dhammakaya in Pathum Thani for a Kathin ceremony. They arrived at 03:00 on 10 October and rested before participating in morning activities. After completing the ceremony, the group departed at 20:00 to return home, during which the driver’s fatigue led to the crash.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver’s exhaustion, combined with insufficient rest, caused him to lose control of the minibus. Police spokesperson Sub-Lieutenant Phongphiwat Srithanapanyaakul confirmed that authorities are continuing to investigate to confirm the cause.

Authorities have urged drivers undertaking long trips to ensure adequate rest and to remain vigilant, particularly when transporting passengers for long distances. The injured are receiving medical care and the investigation is ongoing, will determine what legal action is required.
