Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has approved a nine-day holiday for the 2026 Lunar New Year, known as Tet, spanning from February 14 to 22. The holiday will affect civil servants and employees, who will have five official days off, integrated with four weekend days, allowing for an extended break. Activities will resume on February 23, marking the end of the festive period.

The Tet holiday break is scheduled from the 27th day of the last lunar month to the 6th day of the first lunar month. The Prime Minister has directed the Minister of Home Affairs to inform all relevant sectors about the holiday schedule. Uninterrupted public services are to be ensured by arranging on-duty personnel during the holiday.

Authorities across Vietnam are instructed to stabilize the supply and pricing of goods, facilitate economic activities, and encourage efficiency. Vietnam typically has 11 public holidays annually, less than the average in Southeast Asia. Notable holidays include New Year’s Day and National Day, with the Lunar New Year being the longest.

Economic experts view the holiday as a critical period for both local businesses and tourism. Ensuring a stable supply chain and maintaining pricing during the holidays is essential to prevent inflation and encourage consumer spending. The holiday also sees significant travel activity as Vietnamese people visit family and pay respects to ancestors.

Moving forward, the government emphasizes the importance of efficiency and sustainability in public services during the holidays. Authorities are expected to coordinate closely to manage public health, safety, and transportation as citizens prepare for the celebrations. The holiday's smooth execution is crucial for maintaining public confidence in government logistics and planning.

Key Takeaways

  • Vietnam will observe a nine-day Tet holiday from Feb. 14-22, 2026.
  • Authorities are tasked with maintaining public services and market stability.
  • Vietnam has fewer holidays than the Southeast Asian average.
