The governments of Canada, Taiwan, and the United Arab Emirates have pledged financial aid and relief to assist victims of the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that hit Cebu province two weeks ago. Canada announced $650,000 in funding for humanitarian assistance, with funds directed to World Vision Canada, the Philippine Red Cross, and Angat Pinas Inc. Taiwan committed $200,000 through its Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, while the UAE dispatched urgent relief aid to approximately 40,000 families.

Canada's Secretary of State for International Development, Randeep Sarai, highlighted the vulnerabilities of the Philippines, stating, "Canada stands with its people as they face the impacts of these recent disasters." The funds are allocated for emergency relief, shelter, protection services, and essential hygiene needs. Additionally, Canada may deploy further relief supplies from its regional stockpiles if necessary.

Taiwan's contribution was facilitated by Representative Wallace Minn-Gan Chow and delivered via the Manila Economic and Cultural Office. "Taiwan stands ready to extend any support and assistance Cebu government may need," noted TECO. The aim is to bolster cooperation with the Philippines in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.

The UAE's aid, led by the UAE Aid Agency and monitored by the UAE Embassy in Manila, emphasizes the country's commitment to global humanitarian efforts. UAE Ambassador Mohamed Obaid Alqataam Alzaabi stated that the assistance reflects the UAE’s dedication to supporting those affected by natural disasters, stressing the long-standing cooperation between the UAE and the Philippines.

The recent earthquake has resulted in 76 deaths, 559 injuries, and impacted over 748,000 individuals, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. Relief efforts continue as local and international aid work to address the urgent needs of affected communities.

Of course all support and help must be welcomed.  But there is enough money in the Philippines to support those affected; it's just not as available as it could be as it's in a different bank account to where it should be.
