Filipinos are the world's most frequent users of Facebook and YouTube, according to the recently released Digital 2026 report by Meltwater and We Are Social. The report highlights that 83.3% of the Philippine population uses the internet, notably higher than the global average of 73.2%. This positions the Philippines among the top nations for internet penetration and social media engagement.

The report emphasizes that nearly all Filipino internet users, approximately 99.5%, engaged with social media or messaging platforms in the past month. Filipinos spend an average of 13 hours and two minutes weekly on social media, placing them second globally behind Kenya. When including online video content such as TikTok and Reels, this figure jumps to 33 hours and 50 minutes weekly, with Kenya also leading this ranking.

Facebook is used by 94.9% of Filipino internet users monthly, maintaining its status as the most popular platform in the country. This is significantly above the global average of 56.9%. YouTube, accessed by 85% of Filipinos monthly, also surpasses the global average of 55.4%, underscoring the platform's wide reach in the Philippines.

Messaging apps and platforms like Facebook Messenger are similarly dominant, with 90.6% of users engaging with it monthly. TikTok has grown in popularity among Filipinos, with 82.2% using the platform, ranking the country fourth globally behind Nigeria, Thailand, and Vietnam. Other notable platforms include Instagram, X, Telegram, and Pinterest, though at varying usage levels.

The data was collected by GWI in the second quarter of 2025 from internet users aged 16 and above. The findings reveal that over six billion people worldwide use the internet, echoing the expansive global digital landscape.

Key Takeaways

  • The Philippines outpaces the global average, with 83.3% internet penetration.
  • Facebook and YouTube are the most used platforms among Filipinos.
  • Online video content drives high weekly social media usage.
