Police from Sattahip have arrested a 30-year-old man accused of stealing nine gold-encased Buddhist amulets worth millions from a 93-year-old retired naval officer. The suspect, identified as Worakarn Khaokruawan, was apprehended at a riverside resort in Kanchanaburi on 16 October 2025 after evading authorities following the theft. Authorities reported he had sold the items for personal spending and to impress women.

The incident occurred on 11 October 2025 when Prachum Boonin, a retired naval officer, filed a report at Sattahip Police Station. The suspect posed as an experienced collector to examine the amulets valued at over two million baht and seized them while exploiting the victim’s advanced age. The theft took place at Prachum’s home, 33/9 Moo 2, Sattahip, Chonburi.

Police, led by Pol Col Komsan Kamtunkaew and supported by investigation teams, tracked the suspect using CCTV footage and eyewitness reports. The suspect had checked into a riverside resort in Kanchanaburi on 14 October, appearing to relax after the crime. Officers surrounded his room after verifying the lead with resort staff, arresting him when he attempted to flee through the back door.

During the arrest, police found only a small amount of cash and a mobile phone, as most of the stolen amulets had already been sold. The suspect admitted to using the proceeds for travel, clothing, perfumes, alcohol and spending on women. Investigators recovered some remaining amulets at a daily-rental room in Pattaya where he had hidden them.

Worakarn has a history of criminal activity, including seven prior cases and two active warrants in Pattaya for robbery, plus another warrant in Nakhon Nayok for theft at night, totaling nine cases. The arrest came just 11 days before his birthday, preventing him from celebrating with his girlfriend, to whom he reportedly sent a farewell love message from police custody.

Authorities have secured the recovered items as evidence and will return them to the victim while proceeding with legal action against the suspect at Sattahip Police Station.
