On 15 October 2025, the Similan Islands officially reopened to tourists after a five-month closure, welcoming 2,017 visitors on the first day. The opening included visits to Island 8 (Ko Similan) and Island 4 (Ko Miang) in Similan National Park, Phang Nga province. The waters were calm, skies clear and the islands’ renowned white sandy beaches, turquoise seas and unique rock formations attracted large numbers of mainly international tourists.

Popular landmarks such as “Sailing Rock” on Island 8 and diving sites including Princess Beach, small beaches on Ko Miang and Ko Ba Ngu (Island 9) showcased vibrant coral reefs and abundant marine life. Of the visitors, 1,978 engaged in shallow water activities while 39 participated in deep-sea diving. A total of 51 tour boats operated throughout the day.

Lertsak Panklin, President of the Phang Nga Tourism Business Association, noted that the islands are fully prepared for the season, with safety measures, preservation of natural resources, and infrastructure ready to accommodate tourists. Strict daily visitor limits are enforced and the opening day enjoyed excellent weather conditions, highlighting the islands’ global recognition as one of the world’s most beautiful diving destinations.

Tourism in the region is showing strong recovery, with hotel bookings in Khao Lak exceeding 70%. Simultaneously, the Surin Islands National Park also reopened, recording 282 visitors, of whom 30 stayed overnight. Officials encourage both Thai and international tourists to explore the scenic islands while observing park regulations and safety measures.

Keep it closed.

After a couple of weeks there'll be 10-20 thousand visitors/day, really sad.

200 a day would be more appropriate.

But, TIT where selfish greed rules.
