Dozens of Thai and foreign tourists were forced to flee into the street after smoke filled a Hotel in Pattaya early morning, 18 October 2025. The incident occurred at around 03:50 on Soi Chaloemphrakiat 19, off Pattaya Third Road. Firefighters, rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon Foundation, and Pattaya City Police rushed to the scene following reports of a fire.

When emergency crews arrived, smoke was seen spreading across the second, third, and fourth floors of the hotel. More than 30 guests, including Indian tourists, Thais and other foreigners, among them women, children and elderly guests, were quickly evacuated by hotel staff and rescue teams. Many were seen sitting outside on the roadside, shaken but uninjured, as authorities worked to secure the area.

Initial inspections found no visible flames but a large amount of smoke coming from Room 208 on the second floor. Hotel caretaker Ms. Juthatip Kraison, 35, said she had noticed water leaking in the room before the power to the entire building went out. Soon after, she stated that thick smoke began to pour from the same area, prompting her to order an immediate evacuation of all guests.

Firefighters and technicians determined that the incident was likely caused by an electrical short circuit inside the room, possibly triggered by the water leak. Power was cut to prevent further danger and the situation was brought under control without any injuries or significant damage.

Police are now coordinating with forensic officers from Region 2 Chonburi to conduct a detailed investigation into the exact cause of the short circuit. Authorities have also urged local hotels to review their electrical and plumbing systems regularly to ensure guest safety and prevent similar emergencies in the future.

Stuff of nightmares......always make sure you have a PEP.

"Authorities have also urged local hotels to review their electrical and plumbing systems regularly to ensure guest safety and prevent similar emergencies in the future"

I wonder just how bad some of the electrical installation in hotels/condos etc, really are and how many will review them?

Very...I suspect....and almost certainly ...no.

Rule of thumb.....never stay higher than the fourth floor. Chances of surviving above that are virtually nil in the event of a a major incident.

Easy in this case. Only three upper floors.

Balconies with grids. Bring some rope.

Have my own escape ladders.

I wouldn't trust anything in Thailand regarding fire safety regulations, Although I think they are getting better, One of the first things I look for is the fire escapes, not to happy when I see them padlocked, and fire doors opening the wrong way, and where the staircase is located,

I do not see them getting better. Only the ones getting caught and being forced to get better or face fines and closure.

Thailand does not worry about such things until something bad happens and gets into the news or social media calls them out about it. So there really has not been an improvement or getting better. Just more getting caught.

Reviews in Thailand only take place AFTER the event.  (Like CCTV is only used after a crime/accident; never used to deter law-breakers.)

I doubt anyone checks into the Bangkok Hyatt with an escape ladder.

Correct, and others wrote "Have my own escape ladders,  and "Balconies with grids. Bring some rope."

Only in Thailand.
