A shocking murder has taken place in Dan Chang District, Suphan Buri Province, where an 84-year-old man, father of a local council member, was killed in his own home. The victim, identified as Mr. Thawin Phumchampa, was found dead in a hammock outside his residence, having suffered multiple severe head and facial injuries from a hammer attack. Police swiftly launched an investigation after CCTV footage captured the brutal assault in clear detail.

On 18 October, Pol Lt Col Juthatip Boonrod, investigating officer at Dan Chang Police Station, received a report of a death at a house in Wang Khan Subdistrict. Senior officers, including Pol Col Thatthep Lertlakmeepan, Superintendent of Dan Chang Police Station, and investigators from Provincial Police Region 7, joined the scene examination. Officers discovered Mr. Thawin’s body lying lifeless beneath a shelter by the fence, showing multiple wounds consistent with blunt force trauma.

Mr. Thawin’s daughter, Ms. Duangporn Phumchampa, aged 46, who serves as a member of the Wang Khan Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO), told police she had left home early that morning for work. Upon returning in the evening, she initially believed her father was asleep but soon realised he was dead and immediately called the authorities.

CCTV footage from the property revealed the chilling moment the attack occurred. The video shows Mr. Thawin resting in his hammock as a man approaches and strikes him repeatedly on the head and face with a hammer. This clear evidence enabled police to identify and track down the suspect quickly.

Within hours, a team led by Pol Lt Col Pallop Sinlaparat, head of the Dan Chang investigative unit, located and arrested the suspect at his residence. He was identified as Mr. Chatmongkol,  aged 47. The weapon, a carpenter’s hammer, was seized as evidence.

During initial questioning, Mr. Chatmongkol gave incoherent and inconsistent statements, providing no clear motive for the crime. Investigators are now conducting detailed interrogations to determine the reasons behind the attack. Police are holding him in custody for further questioning and will proceed with legal action once the investigation is complete.
