Police in Nong Bua Lamphu are investigating the brutal murder of a 47-year-old rescue officer from the Nakhum Hai Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO), who was found dead beside an irrigation canal on 18 October. The victim, identified as Mr. Pirun, was reportedly fishing when he was attacked and fatally stabbed in the chest. Local officials and colleagues described him as a kind, well-liked man with no involvement in drugs or conflict.

Pol Lt Col Wiwitchai Chaiphait, investigator at Mueang Nong Bua Lamphu Police Station, led a team including forensic officers, hospital doctors and local authorities to the scene near Ban Hin Lap, along the canal leading to Ban Kud Chim in Nong Sawan Subdistrict. They discovered Mr. Pirun’s body lying next to his Honda Wave motorcycle, with a trail of blood leading from the seat. Preliminary examination revealed facial injuries and a deep stab wound to the left side of his chest near the heart. Officials estimated he had been dead for at least three hours before being found.

Mr. Tawee, a local resident who first discovered the body, told police he was passing by when he noticed the victim lying motionless with visible blood on his face. He immediately alerted the village headman, who contacted the police. The victim’s motorcycle and personal belongings remained at the scene, suggesting robbery was unlikely to be the motive.

Ms. Urarat, a public health officer from Nakhum Hai SAO, and Mr. Boonyen Sihabut, the SAO president, both confirmed that Mr. Pirun was a good-natured person, dedicated to his work and beloved by colleagues. They also stressed that he had no known enemies or involvement with drugs. According to his co-workers, he often spent his free time fishing in the same canal area after his rescue shifts ended.

Mr. Boonyen urged police to expedite the investigation and bring the perpetrator to justice as soon as possible. In response, the investigative team has begun reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas and gathering witness statements. Officers have also deployed units to canvass the surrounding communities for potential leads in what is being treated as a premeditated and violent killing.
