An ambulance collided with a wild elephant in Chachoengsao province, while rushing injured patients to a hospital. The incident happened around 11:30 pm on October 28 as the ambulance traveled along the Ban Na Yao–Khlong Toei Road in the Tha Kradan subdistrict. The crash left the vehicle immobilized, but the patients being transported were unharmed.

The crash took place within a forest zone near Village No. 15, part of the Khao Ang Rue Nai Wildlife Sanctuary. Extensive damage was reported to the ambulance, including a shattered radiator, while a rescue volunteer sustained minor injuries. The elephant, believed to be a five-year-old large male, was injured and initially lay motionless before retreating into the forest.

The rescue team contacted Ekkachai Saendee, the head of the wildlife sanctuary, prompting a mobile wildlife unit to assist. The injured elephant was monitored and pushed back into the forest for safety. Meanwhile, another rescue vehicle from the Tha Kradan Subdistrict Administrative Organisation transported the three injured passengers to Chaikhet Field Hospital.

The ambulance driver reported that the elephant suddenly appeared from the forest, leaving no time to react. Witnesses described the impact as loud and violent. Officials from the wildlife sanctuary are planning to inspect the area to evaluate the elephant's condition and decide if further medical help is needed.

Looking forward, wildlife officials are keen to ensure the elephant's recovery and prevent future incidents. They emphasize the need for increased awareness in forested areas to avoid such collisions. Further investigations are expected to assess long-term solutions for both human and wildlife safety.

Key Takeaways

  • An ambulance collided with a wild elephant while transporting patients.
  • The patients were unharmed, and another vehicle completed the transfer.
  • Wildlife officials plan to assess and assist the injured elephant.

This raises the serious philosophical question - why did the elephant cross the road? :coffee1:

The elephants really hate loud irritating noise, so maybe the ambo siren made him grumpy.

As good a reason as ever, I suppose - notwithstanding an elephant's dichromatic vision. 😀

I find that photo hard to believe........

Looks like the elephant ate too much fermented fruit.

There really needs to be forests where elephants can live in peace, without humans around.
